The charger still charges the car. However, sometimes I hear the car making that charge Initializing sound or the clicking noise even when the charger isn’t connected.

Quick question, if you have a departure scheduled for let’s say as an example, 7:00am departure, does your charger finish charging right before your departure time, or hours before departure time? I was under the impression that it would calculate the time to start charge so that it reaches the set SOC closer to departure time.

my observed behavior is as follows:
  • 2021 Cayenne Hybrid - departure time set for 7 am - car starts to charge "just in time" to "hit" the departure time - i.e. it may wait until 5 am to start charging to achieve 7 am depature time
  • 2020 Taycan Turbo - same as Cayenne
  • 2024 Macan Turbo - it will start to charge as soon as the "allowed" hours tick over - I have allowed hours of midnight to 3 pm - it will charge when ever it needs to in that window, but if I plug it in at say 4 pm - it will wait until midnight to start charging - it may fnish well before the indicated departure time
I prefer the Macan's behavior because it accommodates two things
  1. if you lose power during the charging window it will likely still finish well before depature time
  2. if the charge rate changes during the charging session it will still likely finish well before departure time.

Okay, so yours is behaving the same way mine does. I just would prefer it finish charging on time of departure for when I charge it to 100% in preparation for a longer distance drive. It’s better for the battery not to keep a high SOC for too long. But I guess a few hours probably won’t be too much of an issue.

Generally some time before rather than on the dot. If you include preheat / precool then that should coincide with the departure time.

If you have preferred times set then obviously that will have a bearing on when the session starts in order to meet the target charge.

100% AC charging is fine and typically best if you plan a long journey on that day. Poor practice is to charge to 100% and leave the car for days before using.
