I agree, the car looks more slick and streamline without a wiper. Rain repellent works wonders at clearing the glass above a certain speed. I always carry a window squeegee in the car for any eventuality that the rear screen may need a quick clean..

Tonight itā€™s rainy, droplets accumulating heavily on the rear window: I couldnā€™t see anything on the rear view mirror.

Drove for 40 minutes, the rear wiper was on for 30 minutes. (!!)

Sure, I could have driven just using my side mirrorsā€¦ but what a comfort to see whatā€™s right behind me.

People who say they donā€™t need it either never look back (I was taught to check every few seconds) or donā€™t realize what theyā€™re missing out on. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Not on mineā€¦ donā€™t really miss it functionally. Donā€™t particularly care for it aesthetically.
Also, I find putting rear window heating on in such heavy rain for a couple of minutes improves visibility a lot.

I have it optioned on mine..... Aesthetically yes, it does look better without but i will never be looking at it! So I thought i might as well if it does improve visibility..... As others have said, it could be removed and blanked off if i dislike that much if my Macan ever arrives!

got it too.
Its a very personal choice.
rear window is very small anyway, so you dont see much through it, window clean or not.
I got my car 1.5 month ago and personnally like the wiper on it (black turbo), it breaks the swept back look of the line; but again its personnal.
Operationally speaking:
window is so small, wiper is not of a big help.
but dont forget the rear camera is back from the 90's, the way it works,

Another argument against the wiper I havenā€™t seen in this thread is when handwashing it gets in the way. Several times I tore my washing mitt on my mini electric rear wiper.

Definitely a windshield wiper in this climate. When I ordered my car, the option of a painted rear wiper was not yet available.
I have agreed with my dealer to have the wiper cover painted in body color (metallic black). This still needs to be placed during the next visit, so a photo will follow. I think a sprayed version is a good compromise.
It's nicer without a rear wiper, but if you do it anyway: spray it.

I've taken many cars without rear wipers on ski trips (plus I live in the rainy PNW) and it's always been fine. I think the rear wiper gets overrated.

Get ceramic/water repellent applied. My Rivian has a tiny little rear wiper and I've yet to actually use it.
Absolutely not needed. I have driven 10,000 km now in my Macan Turbo in rainy DK and never missed it.

I live in Los Angeles - and ordered it.

No snow here - but as I do NOT garage my car (car is on my driveway), in the early morning there is often a mist on the car. My current car's rear windshield is used regularly.

Rear windscreen heating option, if taken, also clears the mist, and even better as it clears the whole window.

Having owned 28 different cars in the last 20 years, Iā€™ve noticed itā€™s really only the SUVs (X5, Q7, Q5, GLE, Touareg, Escalade.etc) with the more vertical rear window thatā€™s in the same plane as the rear bumper that accumulates enough snow, salt, dirt, moisture to requires a rear wiper to maintain adequate visibility. The sloped rear window (letā€™s call them fastback) sedans, 911, and even sloped rear window SUV ā€œcoupesā€ like the X6, X4, and Cayenne Coupe donā€™t really have this problem likely because the air turbulence doesnā€™t happen until after the air passes smoothly through the rear window (not before like on SUVs) which has a self-cleansing effect on the rear window surface. I did not have any issues through many winters in Chicago with any cars with similar fastback design while lacking a rear wiper, and that includes my current Taycan. With the Macan EV having the same fastback rear window, Iā€˜m pretty confident I wonā€™t need a rear wiper on that either.
