Hello everyone,

most likely we all are aware of the problems VAG as a whole is facing lately, mostly because of how bad and continuously declining are business in the China market. Porsche appears to be facing also similar problems, however in this case our beloved company issues seems to be quite more critical than the ones VAG as a whole needs to address and cope with due to the very same nature of Porsche cars given their price tag.
More right here:

VAG seems seriously thinking to terminate 3 of its plants in Germany despite tenths of thousands of workers will lose their jobs, in an effort to stabilize at least for a while the crisis and postpone the worst :


What do you think? Things certainly aren't looking good and it does not seem getting any better... 🤔:(
How much all of this will finally going to affect us and what the impact could actually be?

I expect there will be adjustments globally, not just with Porsche, and unfortunately a lot of people will lose their jobs. That’s the reality of the car industry currently.

Some brands won’t make it, you can already see consolidation happening in China. But to your question, Porsche will be fine.

Videos like these with “end of the world” title cards will pop up everywhere because they generate tons of views (= $$).

if the reference point is China... it makes sense. There's more Chinese brands offering comparable or better products, for cheaper....
but he's saying some nonsense i saw somewhere else... that they're going to "reengineer their electric models, and make them have internal combustion" .......... I'm sorry, this is just nonsense. The macan has an ICE version still on sale, and the Taycan has the Panamera....
they frame this stuff as Porsche is an EV company that is now trying to get in to ICE vehicles or something....

...My main concern isn't Porsche will eventually going bankrupt,I hope this is something needs a lot more than this to make it happen.But when companies are facing such problems,in an effort to reduce costs and remain viable, usually degrade their product quality and/or service to the customers.Such a reaction is a quite common practice so isn't it a possibility for Porsche to follow that road also?That's what concerns me the most.

The only way forward for Porsche is to become more exclusive. Less output and bigger margins.

I.e. original taycan was supposed to sell max 20k per annum but they had to double that because of the orders. By doing this they flooded the market, which as a result tanked the second hand prices. This caused a big dent in the perceived value of a () P car. The second gen is now selling less for more and you can see that the prices are stabilizing / going up as the second hand market is shrinking. I see a lot less 2023 and later models showing up in the Porsche Approved lists.

Of all the European manufacturers Porsche is in the best position to shift towards or rather revert back this business model. A lot of the last decade 's growth was realized in China, and that upward potential now has come to an end.

When it comes to ICE vs EV, they will need to provide to different markets and different type of customers. So their current lineup with a balanced mix of ev and ice is quite suitable for this. I do wonder how the market will react to the cayman/boxster. I have no insight on the current sales volumes of the 4cyl 2L 718 model.

Anyways, despite their need to build on brand image, exclusivity, heritage etc. I'm pretty sure the hard plastics on are here to stay :rolleyes:

As somebody who has tracked Apple for decades, I’m very used to predictions of a company’s imminent demise. If I sold every time people started crying “Doom!” I wouldn’t have a 718 in the garage (with a Macan 4S on order) and would live in a much more modest house. What gave me the faith to stay long on AAPL was their commitment to creating great products that created best-in-class user experiences.

Porsche has much in common with Apple in some very important areas.
  1. Priorities (company, customer, everything else),
  2. Product strategy (don’t need to be first, just best)
  3. Constant iteration on successful products (e.g., 911, iPhone)
  4. A willingness to adopt new and abandon old technologies ahead of the market and despite people who don’t know any better claiming each move will be fatal…
When the 911 moved to a water cooled engine, people were not happy; turned out to be a smart play (gave them access to more HP). When Apple abandoned the floppy, people thought it was crazy; how many computers still have them today? People thought Porsche had lost its way when they came out with an SUV; Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati now make them.

Income is not evenly distributed. As a result, there will always be people with the resources to buy expensive toys—as long as those toys have the quality and excellence to merit the purchase. Apple’s secretive design lab creates products the rest of the industry struggles to emulate. Porsche has a commitment to racing (their designer lab) and harnesses what they learn there to create cars we love to drive. There will always be phones less expensive then the iPhone, but will they be as good? Others will try to emulate what Porsche does and do it for less, but will those vehicles be as fun to drive or deliver the same level of quality? I remain skeptical and track what I think is important to inform my opinion of their prospects: it‘s not YouTube videos, it’s the quality of their products and their ability to delight people who purchase them.

Porsche may be going through some growing pains with the rollout of the Macan—much as Apple had missteps along the way with the iPhone (antennagate)—but the reviews have been consistently, very positive. Both the professional reviewers and people on this forum love them. While I genuinely feel for people who have had to pay the price for Porsche’s stumbles, the Macan has been a winner in the long run and I’m going to bet that this new one will be as well.

My $.02 – YMMV

i don't even think it has anything to do with the macan or electrics in general. If these dealerships in china and elsewhere were closing, it didn't happen in the past month with the Macan launch.
But yes, porsche will be fine

The Electric Viking is as reliable in his predictions on the car industry as my 13 year old daughter is. I watched one of his videos from 2 years ago where he predicted VAG would be one of the Top 3 brands in the car world in 2030 (and he was also predicting 95% of the cars would be electrical by then). He just has no clue...

What is a fact though, is that the traditional car makers are on the backfoot and the Chinese manufacturers are coming in big time currently with cheaper cars with more functionality. Big question at the moment is how reliable are they and how is their longevity (especially their batteries). The jury is out, and for sure the car market is up for a big shakeup.

Personally, I think Porsche will be fine. VAG on the other hand may not. Maybe another round of Porsche trying to take over VW instead of vice versa. I'll get the popcorn out already...

This guy is just a clickbait King, not a Viking.
He gets many things wrong all the time, and a Tesla shill as a TSLA stockholder. Hence, constant feed of every little happening at Tesla, churning out those videos profusely and bashing all other carmakers.
If he had his way, only Tesla would rule the earth and most legacy carmakers would have gone bust by now, as he had been predicting ever since.
So, take it with a pinch of salt, what he says. He is just good for fun-watching, not to take it seriously 😆
