This has happened many times and I'm not sure if I'm losing my mind or if it's a bug. In the US we get EA charging for 1y. From the PCM I select the fuel icon, select an EA charger, and then navigate there.

Tonight I had a 1.5h/70mile destination. Ambient is 52f. Battery is 52f. It never budged. No preheating etc. 10min out from the destination I cancel and redo it, no change. Get to the destination and it wouldn't hit more than 90kw when the battery was at 20%. EA had 10 350kw chargers there, others charging at 130kw there.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing wrong most likely.

Not all EA chargers deliver at peak speed - how many stations have you had this issue with?

2 Separate stations that I frequent. What strikes me as odd though is the battery didn't raise it's temp at all over 1.5h/70miles? It stuck to ambient.

I noticed there are two ways to pick a destination - when you click on a charging station icon you can set it as a destination or select it as a charging stop. When selecting a charger as a destination it will not preheat the battery, you have to use an option "add charging stop".

You can check it out - set a destination near your charger, use "show nearby chargers", click on a charger and there would be another way to add it to your trip by selecting "add charging stop". After adding the charger this way you will see a different icon with power and not a flag next to it.

I suppose the thinking behind this really bad UX is the charging planner works only when chargers are set as stops on the way to your final destination.

Generally adding a DC EVSE as a stopover in NAV will force the pre-conditioning - rather than as an ultimate destination. This will invoke the Charging Planner which manages the pre-conditioning.

Additionally, make sure the Charging Planner is active when planning any route as EVSEs are auto selected along with pre-conditioning of battery as part of your journey plan.

Something is not right the way the charging destination is selected since if it is selected correctly the battery will preheat and you observe in the left tube battery screen the increase in battery temperature and max charging rate possible. Macan EV marketing pages state that ideal battery temperature for charging is between 86F and 95F.

DISCLOSURE: I do not have Macan EV but this is how it works on Taycan and I am using Macan EV simulator screens to demonstrate the process.

You must use Navigation -> Charging Station screen as shown below to locate and select the charging station as destination.

Electric Macan EV Pcm / preconditions 1733838667512-j4

Then select the charging station.

Electric Macan EV Pcm / preconditions 1733838698297-lk

Then the proof of navigation to a charging station is on the right screen as shown here with its kW rating.

I find the EA network inconsistent. One stop I will get 70kw the next 170kw.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I do exactly this and no dice.

This looks to be the answer. Horrible UX decision. So backwards. Will test shortly again.

Thank you for replying.

It’s annoying, but after all, very logical.

The car needs to know the estimated travel time to the next travel charge point, and so the battery level, in order to preheat at the best rate (precondition costs lot of energy…).

That’s probably why they don’t provide us with a button “precondition it, it’s an order!”

But I can’t see a reason not to automatically precondition when you choose an identified “fast charging place” POI as a final destination.
I see the programmatic reason: developpers make no difference when it comes to final destination, they just check that the battery level at destination will be above the minimal level set in the PCM.

Please Porsche IT, add a “if final destination is fast charging point and estimated battery level at destination is less that x% (60, 70 ?), precondition else “…” “
or simply ask: do you want To charge at this final destination? And car will precondition accordingly.

Does seem annoying but also agree there is some logic to it I think

Say you just wanted to go to a charger station to meet a friend whose at the station charging. Maybe you can argue you would want the option to NOT pre-condition the battery. I know that's probably the lower probability scenario vs actually going to the charger station to charge but just throwing out some reasons (however dumb) haha ... go easy on me

Not dumb: true. But more generally, how would it know how much charge you want to add (and therefore whether or not you should precondition, or perhaps to what temperature.) In your case it's 0%, but in the absence of a plan to go to the next following stop, there's no way to know...unless it asks of course, as @byebye suggests. But I think I would have it ask is, "to what level do you want to charge at this stop" (maybe just have a slider). If you choose a level below which it projects you will reach the charger, or if marginally above, it won't pre-condition. Otherwise it will use some algorithm to decide what to do.

Have you found the solution. This is something that I tried on the Taycan that works.

- Set your Work or Final not charging station destination as a Favorite in the PCM
- Next to it there will be 3-dots that will open up a pop up to select Show Near By Charging stations
- Select Charging Station from List or Map
- Car Navigates and pre-heats the battery
