Apparently, Macan which come from the factory with 20” wheels have smaller wheel arch extension…

This is very interesting, they all come with this molding, gloss black or matte depending on model, but I have never realized that there is a difference in the extent of width depending on wheel size. Will try and check this out at the dealer next time I am there.

i saw this...but i didn't think it was any different than the factory... how was this determined?

i think this is nothing but like a mud guard that extends the wheel arches down to the black lower body panels...

hmm maybe not...so hard to tell by the pics... it looks like the turbo arches have more depth according the pic...
interesting

Yes, I can confirm that the wheel arches are different with the 20" rims vs 21 or 22. The 20" rims come with narrower tires in the front (hence better mileage on those wheels) and the offset is different. The 21/22" wheels are protruding a little more and those options come with a different wheel arch kit.
You can see the description for the wheel arch extensions kit at sun coast website, they do mention this is standard for the Macas equipped with 21 or 22" wheels.

Does anybody know why this would be required when upgrading to a large set of tires?

For example the language on the website says:

Electric Macan EV Wheel arch extensions 1740529055354-50

Thanks

The 21” and 22” tires are wider than the 20” wheel housing extensions and will protrude outside of the 20” ones which will affect the aesthetics of the car and possibly worsen the drag coefficient and range.

Also if you convert to wider tires, the chances of little rock’s chips coming loose from the tire tread and then sand blasting your paint as they are thrown backwards will greatly increase without the wider OEM arch extensions.

so it arrived today. Undamaged despite the box being jacked up...
interestingly...it comes with the fenders, the lil extra mud guards on the rear... and also comes with completely new wheel well/fender liners...
not quite sure that was needed...but i'm sure that was probably a good bit of the price

Are you getting Porsche to put them on? If so did they give you a quote?
