I like Android Auto Wireless -- I had it on my previous car (a '22 Audi e-tron GT) and on my current Macan EV. Great!
But, more than half the time, when I stop, put the car in park, turn off the power, and exit the car, the music playing from the phone will just switch over to play on the phone, rather than stop.
This is super annoying, because when hauling up the phone from my pocket, I typically bump it so I have to unlock it to stop the music, rather than using the lock-screen pause widget.

Also, the "pause" button on the volume control just mutes the music, rather than stopping it. That seems like an oversight. Less annoying, but pretty annoying still.

Is there some setting, or some other sequence of shutdown events, I can take to make sure the music properly stops when exiting the vehicle, without having to fish the phone out of the pocket everytime?

This doesn’t happen to me. My iPhone connects wirelessly with the car as soon as I get inside and often starts playing the last song I was listening when I left the car. I will have to check but I suspect a couple of scenarios in your case. First, if you are choosing the song on your phone and then playing it on the car once it connects. Then I suppose it will start playing on your phone once you get out. Instead, I usually use the music icon on CarPlay on the car’s PCM to select a song. Or second possibility is that somehow that happens if you turn off the car before getting out. Since I never do this, I cannot confirm whether that causes that behavior. I just park and get out. The car will lock and turn off on its own.
And you are correct, The pause button just mutes the audio. If you want to pause it, you have to select pause (||).
I will play around with the audio system tomorrow to see if I can replicate your experience.

While I appreciate your attempt, CarPlay and Android Audio are totally different features.

I've used wireless android auto on other cars, and this Macan is the only car where youtube music doesn't stop playing when the car turns off.
FWIW, I've found another forum where other users have a similar complaint, so this seems to be something systemic.
And I bet if I start pulling on this, Volkswagen will point at Google, and Google will point at Volkswagen ...

My mistake, I thought you were referring to android automotive which is the OS for the car’s PCM. Unfortunately, I have no experience with Android Audio since I’ve always used Apple CarPlay. Good luck with finding a solution.

Yeah an iPhone defaults to switching to the phone, but in paused mode. if you want to continue you press the play button on the phone. There should be a phone setting to control this behavior, i.e. what to do when connection is lost. I don't think the car has any control over the behavior.

I have the exact same 'issue'. Not terrible - as I'm happy to continue listening - but it shouldn't behave as it is.

I would assume all Android users have this.

Mine does it too. Nothing like the phone starting to blast music a few seconds after walking away from the car

I don't think this is a phone setting, as it doesn't do this for any other car with wireless Android Auto. (Also, there's no phone setting for what to do when disconnecting, only for when connecting.)

I've never noticed... But this is prob more a phone thing than car thing... The phone just defaults back to another output when one goes away

Ultimately everything to do with Android Auto is a phone setting. Android Auto is 100% on your phone--after it disconnects from the car, only the phone, and not the car, can tell your audio app what to do. Since the app is running on the phone the whole time, it's a combination of that app (Spotify, YouTube) and Android Auto itself that control that behavior when switching audio outputs.

Generally speaking, switching from phone to speaker to BT headphones to a car does not stop the audio streams, so I would expect that the music would continue when I got out of the car just like a phone call would continue or just like the audio switched from my phone to my car when I got in.

But I recognize that other cars do behave differently. They may be sending a pause command before disconnecting, making you expect this as standard behavior for all cars. However, that's a bad design if a default behavior depends on someone else--the "right" way to force a consistent behavior in all cars would be for Google to send that pause command when AAR disconnects or set it up as a configurable option.

FWIW, when walking away from the car without manual power-off (letting the car auto-lock), I get a 50/50 for whether the phone will stop or not.

I have the same problem maybe half the time. I'm in a store or restaurant, and my phone is playing music in my pocket. My wife also drives the car, and when her phone is connected through Android Auto, she does not experience the problem. To help find a pattern on this problem, I'm on a Samsung S24 Ultra, she's on a S25 Ultra.

There is a setting on my phone under Connected Devices/Android Auto "Continue on other devices" which I have turned off, but it doesn't seem to matter.

I have wired/wireless AA on other cars and do not experience this issue. Another annoying thing is if I use the native Spotify app instead of from AA, it randomly pauses the music. So it's either have random music pauses or have my phone keep playing the music when I get out of the car.

I'm on a Samsung Fold 6 with OneUI v.7.

Are you and your wife on the same version?
