I was following the first electric Macan I’ve seen on the road earlier today (I presume a base mode 4 as it was a late 24 number plate) I noticed that the spoiler auto extension came on at around 40mph ish, where as mine only pops up at 95 mph* (on a Turbo).

It made me wonder whether the trigger speed was different by model, or whether my car has yet another niggle.

It also made me ponder what the point was of a road car having a spoiler that doesn’t pop up until you’re 25mph over the speed limit.

*tested for research purposes only on an empty road

My 4S spoiler pops up less than 40mph. Not sure why a spoiler is needed at 35, unless its a style or range thing. 🙂

spoiler pops up at 35mph, but extends further upon heavy acceleration or launch control almost straight up fully visible in the rear view mirror

yeah, it comes up at very low speeds...
i suspect yours is up, and you just may not be able to see it...But i can hear mine lowering as i come to a stop every time.
However, there are different levels of "raise" for hte spoiler... So it doesn' raise up to a point tha i can see it in the rear view, unless i'm going very fast, or i put it in Sport Plus....

that's i suspect, yours is up at normal speeds, you just can't see it

It is likely that you saw a manual deployment - how would you know otherwise?

Deployment is most likely to be the same for all models and deploys in two stages and varies depending on whether the sunroof is open or not and drive mode selected - https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/press-kits/the-new-porsche-macan/Design-und-Aerodynamik.html

when you're coming to a stop, if you listen, you can hear the "wirrr" of the spoiler actuators very easily...
and i hear it at every stop...not coming off the highway... So it def comes at low speeds

It’s in German but should be readable.
The car is from Germany where there are no speed limits on some roads, that’s where the spoiler is useful :)
Extending it at lower speed would not make sense airodynamically. You can always force it to be extended in the car settings if you really wish to.

Ah - that may well be the case then! I thought it was either up, or down, but a mid point would make sense that I can’t see it.

I’ll have to not have my music quite so loud and stop singing along 😂

it was definitely automatic not manual, unless the driver was pressing it up and down at every junction lol I think it’s just due to me not realising it was two stages 😃

My seating position makes it so that I can easily see the fully deployed ‘performance’ position but not the ‘eco’ one.

The first time I noticed this was when I was trying out Sport Plus mode, and that gets the fully deployed spoiler at regular road speeds.

Despite seeing that chart before, I’d not realized that having the roof open is also a trigger for the spoiler! I might try that out later

The great thing about living in the north Midlands is the M6 Toll Road - no speed cameras or police patrols, very few cars around at night, and the toll booths have that lovely barrier that goes up and just tempts you to do launch control…. 😂

Is there 2 spoiler deployment heights?

edit. is it also possible to manual deployment to the 2 different height settings?

Yes, 2 spoiler heights. It seems they're named Eco and Performance.

It looks like only Launch Control gets anything from zero to 55ish km/h, where all modes move to Eco level - about half way.

Then at 90km/h, Sport Plus mode moves to the higher level, but this also happens if the sunroof is open(!).

At 150km/h, all modes get the Performance level for the spoiler.

When you slow down, there's a delay of about 15-20km/h before dropping down a spoiler level.

The spoiler switch in the mode pages (and for manual opening independent of drive mode) only allow for an On/Off, which seems like it could be a level selector - None/Eco/Performance - instead.

Note: The sunroof has 2 open modes - tilt and slide. Investigations of which of these, or both, trigger the Sunroof spoiler mode need to be performed.
