I've had many BMW's over the past 30 years, and always spec the HK audio system - the odd time I listened to the base systems, I was very disappointed!

The Macan EV I recently had for 24h, had a Bose system. Just two tone sliders - Bass and Treble. I could not get this system sound to my liking, I agree with an earlier comment that the bass at low volume is weak, it's ok at higher volume, but then treble becomes too hissy. I eventually settled on bass +6, treble +2.

I also had the opportunity to experience the Bose system on a loaner. It's decent but IMO the Burmester is remarkably better.

Aside from a few preset profiles, the Burmester EQ basically consists of bass and treble sliders. These are the main menus:

I see, similar to the Bose system settings then, I wonder why no EQ?

I'm going to have to have a listen to a system, it's an extra £3k over the Bose in the UK.

Bose has the same settings. The price difference it doesn't justify the quality difference unfortunately. The best balance is the Bose, ok..I know it is not a hi-end system but, it always come to the personal preference source and type of music.
Spotify is not that bad with Bass +3 and highs at +1. The Mid range adjustment is a problem indeed and it is stupidity not to have it .... but same issue is found in the burmester of Porsche! The burmester in Benz had a mid range and that was a good choice, but it was missing the deep bass due to there were no door speakers! So I added a sub in the Trunk to balance the things..I have a video on that).
Overall Bose is losing it close to the edge, but until 28-29 is OK for most of listeners.

The loaner 2026 Cayenne I just had came with a LOT of bass on the Bose sound system. It was turned all the way up to 9! (Perhaps the Bermester goes to 11?)

Setting it to a more reasonable 5 was still more bassy than level 5 in my Macan 4S.

Funny how much of a keyrole is the cabin dimensions and shape in the sound stage quality and loudness. Some friends above mentioned about Mini's I had both the Cooper s, R53 and R56 and both they were very punchy and stiff, practically shaking the whole cabin, but much smaller space and the bass can easily reach to your ears.

I know this isnt a proper bose or burmester built in equalizer, but as a workaround, since I use android auto, I've been using my phone's equalizer to tune the sound and it's been working pretty well.

I Would definitely opt for the Bose and if you can really stretch your budget I would go for the Burmester but the Bose is the sweet spot for me. You get decent sound for a reasonable price and way better than the standard audio. You get more kick and better vocals and get a base EQ to fine tune according to your taste.

Hi Folks, I have the Bose upgrade and felt it sounded cheap and awful. But then it's like something switched (or an EQ was enabled or something!) after a few weeks and it really did sound much better. After reading this chat, I would recommend you get a demo of the various sound systems. In my case, "Surround" sounds like a reverb mess. I keep it in "Stereo" for clarity, punch and no reverb/echo. To each their own!

With other Porsche models people have had good luck upgrading the drivers to Burmester, Morel, Audio Frog etc. I wonder if the same drivers are used in the Macan EV as other Porsches? I’ve seen upgrades for the petrol Macan but it’s not clear how similar the audio systems are.

I don't particularly like graphic EQ. The mixing engineer already had an idea what he was doing, and the musicians approved it. The goal of the sound system is to be as true to the mastered recording as possible. EQ should largely be used to compensate for listening/environment/equipment problems.

To that effect, I'd much rather have a couple of channels of parametric EQ, than any number of "graphic EQ" sliders... But I'm in a vast minority about this. My Macbook allows me to plug in sound processor plugins that go before the sound output, but unfortunately, my Android phone does not...
