Found this thread on the "sister" Taycan site with a lot of information... https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/taycan-standard-stereo-vs-burmeister-upgrade.13334/
Sadly the Burmester is rated less than my actual Tesla model 3 (that works very well - unfortunately it's penalized by exterior sound - only front windows have double sound system - and crackles... and on this I hope that Porsche is way better....).
I'm afraid but I'm thinking to reconsider my Burmester choice: since I spend a lot of time driving I want to enjoy music at its best (in studio I have 8000€ speaker each...)
Bose is very good. Burmester is some extreme high-end equipment for home audio, BTW; not worthy of inclusion in a car as a general proposition.
Inexplicably, I got a base-everything Macan loaner with a Burmester radio (why would anyone spec a $7k radio on what amounts to a VW?). It was too bass heavy as configured. The mid was clearer than Bose, but when driving, the noise of the engine and road made this impossible to notice.
Another loaner was a completely base Macan with base radio. Really noticeably bad sound - not worthy of the Porsche price point. Sounds like a friend's Subaru.
For my sense of value, Bose is a good choice.
I optioned the Burmeister system and I could not be happier! I love loud music and the clarity and the sound is out of this world! I have the Burmeister on my MB E450 and that is why I optioned it. So good! So loud! Just rocks!
When I took delivery I warned the dealership and I played Billy Idol ‘Shock to the System‘ @ 35! It was great!
It seems that if you want much better sound in a car you need loads of acoustic sheet sound proofing, professionally positioned in the door panels etc. For this reason I just couldn’t justify the Burmester option at 4 times the Bose price, knowing it would have acoustic environment limitations. Marginal gains for a hefty increase in price I think.
There is a company in the UK that offers 6 levels of audio upgrades on the new Macan EV starting at £1495 (1 Day Fit) up to a staggering £124,178 (60 Day Fit).
I had a Meridian sound system in my Jaguar and I didn’t think it was any better to my ears to what you’d get in a car half the price.
Have BM in a taycan. Chose it without testing because Bose wass so bad. Would never do it again, as the execution is so bad. Have stripped down everything in order to fix wrong installaation from factory, dampen, stiffen and seal. Massive improvement but still not "good". Aassume Macan no better, so would go with Bose to get Sub control then strip it down and get more desent aftermarket gear. Btw. No Burmester drivers in BM system. Cheap drivers from italian OEM manufacturer ASK with minimagnets and paper membrannes. Amps look cheap to. Probably <1K worth of hardware for a 7k system
