Hi, we've had some low temps and snow in Poland.
I leave my car on the driveway connected to 11kw charger.
Noticed it prefers to cheat the cabin from battery instead of grid.

What I do:
- leave the car connected to the charger in the evening
- target SoC is set to 80% and overnight it reaches 80% (usually 81% od 82%)
- in the morning I use the app to pre heat the cabin (car still connected after charging)
- climate control works for 15-30 mins and the car is warm
- battery drops to 78% and it did no draw any power from the charger during this process

This seems like a bug or some bad design.
Did you noticed something similar?

I have noticed the same with my car. Makes zero sense. If the car is plugged in I would expect it to draw power from the charger and not the battery to pre-heat…

My iX3 does the same, perhaps the power used can only from the battery and not the charger direct.

My BMW does charge though during the heating/pre-conditioning.

You can switch DC Charging on to recharge the battery whilst the car is preconditioning.

Alternatively, you can temporarily increase the level of charge required in the My Porsche App to start charging the car remotely.

Same here (and it looks weird). Car connected to the grid BUT it uses battery to preheat the cabin….

is there a way to just change the SOC reach time of 80% to the time including the pre heating of the cabin. lets say you leave at 8am the heater kicks in 7:45 and the car is still in charge mode. drawing power from the batterie or grid would still allow for less or no loss of the 80%.

Scenario:
Last night my car charged to 80% and I also have Battery Saving ON so normally the battery charging is stopped at 80%

My Wall Charger controls charging by setting a departure time/date in the future e.g., 16.01.2025 22:35.

I want to preheat the cabin, so I turn on Preheat in the My Porsche App. My car heats up to the selected cabin temperature 21.5 C, my Driver’s seat is heated and the steering wheel is also heated (that’s what I normally have set), the windscreen is also heated.

The cabin does start to preheat as requested and I have only requested this from the App, so no need to go to the car. My electricity rate at night is 1/5 of the day rate, so preheating with the battery is OK.

Scenario changes:
Except, today I also want to get the maximum range from the battery and preheating from the electric supply is what I need rather than using the battery (charged with cheap electricity).

I can continue to add power from the Wall Charger by moving the slider e.g,, to 90%. The Wall Charger supplies power to the car so that 3.8kW is being added. After 15 minutes I’m ready to leave and the car has been preheated and the battery still shows 80%.

Normally my Wall Charger provides 7.2kW to charge the HV Battery at home. I don’t know why it only charges at a lower rate except that the lower rate may be sufficient to maintain the battery at 80% whilst preheating the cabin.

It seems to be a moot point that the power to heat the cabin originates from the HV battery and not directly from the Wall Charger if the battery can simultaneously be replenished from the Wall Charger, like in the second example.

car will always run from the battery - if you are plugged in to a charger and settings allow it it will backfill the drain on the battery with the charger

there is no way to run the car directly from the charger- this is the way!

100% normal and expected!
