I don't know about Malaysia - but in North America the Porsche EVSE's are super super expensive vs. higher quality alternatives

example:
  • Porsche Mobile Charger+ - ~$3200
  • ChargePoint Flex - $699
there is no difference to the car - both will charge your Porsche - just one however is over 4x more expensive.

Looks like the included one is 40 amps. The Tesla wall mounted is 48 amps. Ford offers an 80 amp wall mounted for the F-150 lightning. There are also 80 amp wall mounted chargers available on the market. Does anyone know if the 80 amp chargers work with the Macan EV? I assume it would?

Reminder - North American plug-based mobile EVSE's like the PUC/PMC+/PMCC should be paired/operated with a commercial grade NEMA socket designed to handle the multi-hour high kW loads associated with charging long range EV's like the Taycan/Macan

Most (99%???) NEMA sockets that are pre-existing or installed by electricians are _NOT_ commercial/industrial grade sockets. The $12 Leviton socket your electrician purchased at Home Depot or Lowes is _NOT_ an industrial grade socket suitable for use with 9.6 kW EVSE running at 40 amps for 8+ hours to charge your Macan from 20% SOC over night.

average/common NEMA 14-50/6-50 sockets are not designed to operate in the high-demand long duration environment associated with EV charging - best practice is to have an electrician installed a commerical/industrial grade NEMA socket that will not melt/fail when charging an EV for 4 or more hoursā€¦

please see Porsche's own recommendations/requirements in this regard - Porsche's recommendation mirror other EV vendors for home charging setups alsoā€¦

if you're not running your EVSE with a Hubble or equivalent industrial grade socket it is a problem waiting to happenā€¦

Porsche recommends home owners only install industrial quality electrical NEMA receptacles and have the installation performed by qualified electricians in accordance with the National Electrical Code or applicable local equivalents.
For example, the following receptacles are recommended for their industrial quality and ability to handle high current with minimal electrical resistance for long periods of time:
  • Hubbell HBL9450A = NEMA 14-50 Receptacle (4-wire)
  • Hubbell HBL9367 = NEMA 6-50 Receptacle (3-wire)
    A 50-amp branch circuit should use minimum 6 AWG, 90Ā°C-rated copper wire for conductors supplying level 2 Porsche charging hardware plugged with a NEMA 14-50 or 6-50 supply cable. Receptacle terminal screws must be tightened to manufacturer specifications. The use of ferrules on the supply conductor wiring is recommended to further safeguard the circuit connection at the receptacle.
    Caution
    If the electrical receptacles/outlets are not of sufficient quality, higher temperatures can occur in the receptacle when charging the vehicle using the supplied charging hardware (e.g. Porsche Mobile Charger). This can result in thermal damage to the receptacle and associated wiring. Low quality NEMA receptacle use or improper installation are not an indication of a defect in the vehicle or Porsche charging hardware.

they will function fine - but Macan's maximum charge rate is 11 kw - 80 amp EVSE's provide 19.2 kW - it's not problem - the Macan will simply charge at it's maximum rate of 11 kW - so the 19.2 kW EVSE is a bit of a waste but 100% functional with paired with an Macan
  • 19.2 kW - 80 amp EVSE requires a 100 amp circuit breaker and associated wire - hardwired only - not plug based
  • 11 kW - 48 amp EVSE requires a 60 amp circuit breaker and associated wire - hardwired only - not plug based
  • 9.6 kW - 40 amp EVSE requires a 50 amp circuit breaker and associated wire - hardwired or plug-based with commerical grade NEMA 14-50 or 6-50 socket.
the Ford-PRO EVSE is not recommend because it's actually a CCS1 EVSE which is used for the vehicle-to-home emergency backup feature (which Macan does not support).

Ford no longer "lists" their V2H charger - Ford Pro is a J-1772 - https://www.fordpro.com/en-us/products/product-details/FPC-AC0080ZC - although for $2400 I'd go with Enphase or the Porsche Wall Chargerā€¦

If you want an 80 amp EVSE I'd recommend Enphase/ClipperCreek or the Porsche Wall Charger - both of which are J-1772 based EVSE's matching the Macan's J-1772 charging ports on both sides of the vehicle.

please replace your NEMA sockets with a Hubble or equivalent before you wake up one morning to t his having happened overnight in your garageā€¦

wow this is a lot ot think about.
Might have to have an electrician come out and re-check my set up. It was put in for EVs, but i'm pretty sure that cheap Leviton box is what's installed too...

Iā€™d say the same is apparent throughout the world - so long as there is the ā€˜Porscheā€™ logo, itā€™ll command a premium/mark-up of 3-4 times.

For reference, Iā€™ve been quoted

~USD $2,462 for the mobile charger (22kW)
~USD $1,231 for the Dock

Which is actually more than people in North America pay (after conversion) - not even factoring standard of living or anything else. Apparently, Malaysia isnā€™t even getting access to the new Porsche Wall chargers either.

Third party solutions, such as the Wallbox Pulsar Max (22kW) with a 7m cable are about USD $1,355.

Again, Porsche will sell you on the intergration, how everything can been seen on the app. Everyone just has to figure out if the cost is justified for them.

the integration isn't that extensive and rarely works because Porsche's software/cloud skills are "weak" - also you can control charging via the vehicle with the Prosche app regardless of what type of external EVSE you have purchased - the ONLY thing the Prosche EVSE's provide is an accumulated charging history for kWh's consumed - other vendors products provide the same data set - although not via the Porsche appā€¦

the cost is largely unjustifiable.

Porsche's recommendations are pretty clear and follow industry best practices - they even list the part numbers for the proper NEMA socket ;-)

just have the electrician "match" that document - I reference published Porsche document so you don't have to take my word for it - I'm not making this crap up - LOL
