Went for a short drive today and when I returned home I plugged in my car as I normally do. I use the Porsche Mobile Connector that came with the car on a NEMA 14-50 outlet.

As you can see in the attached video, there seems to be an issue - and I suspect it’s with the car itself. The Mobile Connector makes a constant clicking sound while flashing lights. It does not seem to establish a connection with the car as the PCM shows a “no charger connected” message.

This also happens when plugging into the port on the other side of the car.

I thought I could be a problem with my charger, so I grabbed my old Tesla Mobile Connector with an adapter and gave that a try. Same exact behavior - the Tesla connector also made a constant blinking and clicking sound and the car didn’t recognize that anything was plugged in.

I then thought it might be my power outlet, so I plugged into a different 14-50 outlet in the garage. Same exact issue.

It seems like now the issue is either with my building’s power system, or with the onboard charger in my car itself.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any tips or tricks would be great. I made a service appointment but it’s not until next week.
Very disappointing for a 3 month old car.

as you suspect it's most likely a warranty problem with the onboard charger with your vehicle - you'll need service diagnosis and repair most likely.

the only other step I'd consider would charging at a public charger (L2 not FastDC) to verify the fault with all L2/AC EVSE's…

I doubt it's a serious problem - other than the need for diagnosis and repair.

Maybe try a factory reset. If unsuccessful, it will need servicing. I would not wait until next week and take the car to the dealership today. They can keep it until they fix it and give you a loaner until then.

1. check the plug:
Correct fit: Ensure that the charging plug is correctly and fully inserted into the vehicle's charging socket.
Locking: Make sure that the plug is correctly locked.
Safety bolt: There is a safety bolt that engages when the plug is correctly connected.
2. reset the charger to factory settings:
Porsche Mobile Charger Plus:
If the indicator light flashes white during the reset, the charger is reset to factory settings.
Porsche Wall Charger Connect:
You can decouple the charger via the settings and reset it to factory settings.
3. self-test:
Successful self-test:
After a successful self-test, the indicator lights light up green and the device is ready for operation.
Error:
If the self-test fails, the indicator light may flash differently than usual.
4. other possible causes and solutions:
Standby mode:
If the charger is in standby mode after 10 minutes (mains indicator flashing), try a manual wake-up by pressing and holding the Mode button for approx. 10 seconds.
Mains connection:
Ensure that the charger is properly connected to a power source.
Vehicle:
Check that the vehicle is properly set to charging mode.
Water:
Never immerse the charger and plugs in water or spray them directly with water.
Porsche ID:
Decouple the charger from your Porsche ID (SETTINGS > User profiles) and reset it to the factory settings (SETTINGS > FACTORY SETTINGS).
5. contact Porsche:
If the problem persists, contact your Porsche dealer or Porsche Customer Service.

Question for you -- by any chance do you have a Departure time set and saved to the car? This will prevent the car from charging until the calculated time prior to departure needed to ensure a full charge. You can get around THAT by setting "location specific charging" though.

You can also use “Direct Charging” to override any schedule.
Yeah - this is not what’s causing the charging problem. It should not be behaving this way regardless of a departure being set. I have changed nothing with the configuration on my car and this issue just randomly started happening. The fact that the car isn’t even recognizing that a charger is plugged in makes me pretty certain that this problem is more than just a departure time being set.

Yes, I also tried the “direct charging” setting and it made no difference.

It’s at the Porsche workshop now. My Service Advisor says that there’s a software update available but is doubtful that it will fix it. Thinks it’s probably a problem with the onboard charger / charge port. Will update when I hear more.

Yeah, I have to imagine that the clicking is related to a physical problem with the connection. None of that should occur under any normal operation, I would think.
Good luck!

Picked the car up from service and the issue seemed to resolve itself after they installed a software update. Nobody was able to explain why it happened or what the problem was. They said it was just a “software bug” most likely. Better than it being a physical issue, I suppose. I just hope it doesn’t happen again!

Thank you!! Also noticed you're from my hometown of Santa Cruz, CA. Makes me happy to know there's a Turbo driving around down there. haha. It was just a sleepy hippie beach town full of old Volvos and Toyotas when I was growing up :D
