Have seen and seated in the new Cayenne, in real life it’s not that ugly, even the back is OK ish, was also the feedback of everybody that came to see it. While it offers a bit more space, the overall interior space and booth are marginally bigger, I had hoped it would be as practical as the Q7 I had, but it landed short. As an overall package the Macan is nicer, let’s hope the Coupe can replicate this, though practical wise the verdict is in and for me that was a let down. (Driving wise it will not be as agile as the Macan, that is pure fysics, maybe the turbo with the hydrolics can beat it but then you land at 230K …)
The S and GTS will be along soon enough which I'm expecting will enable the PAR option.

I didn't go to the launch (3 invites, yawn) but will test drive for sure when the window opens.

Ha ha, transit van it is not.

I've owned an S and GTS previously and overall size is within the Panamera or Taycan range.

Suggest to check the dimensions and then make a call on whether it is too big or impractical - 10 cm in length difference is all 4.9m vs 4.9m (Taycan) vs 4.8m (Macan).

Did you liken your Taycan to a Transit van also??
The Cayenne is a massive brick like vehicle and imho based on driving 400 miles in a high spec hybrid handles like a t*t on a trampoline, bit like Range Rover type vehicles with high centres of gravity. Taycan does not drive like big car but imho is still oversized for most UK roads as was an Audi S7 I had a decade ago. Interior space in Cayenne is also very ‘anti Tardis’ - not for me!

I would never go back to an ICE or hybrid. One, I think long term maintenance on the EV will be vastly better (fewer dealer visits, lower cost). Two, I pay nothing to charge at home (excess solar production). I particularly don’t want a hybrid with two power systems to maintain, although I get there are many people with deep charger/range anxiety that would prefer a hybrid. I have zero anxiety with an EV, especially now that Tesla stations are available for the Macan. Moreover, the number of charging stations continues to grow.

Fewer dealer visits? Porsche EV have the same service intervals as the majority of their ICE and hybrids - 2 years / 20K miles.

Service costs are lower for sure.

Public charging in UK is expensive which is annoying to say the least.

I said I'd never go back but after 4 years and 2 Taycans I did. Home charging is a winning part of the mix but depreciation certainly wasn't.

I may return to an EV but right now there is no incentive (for me) to do so.

We have had a troubled 9 months ownership with our Macan CPO EV Turbo, Been in the shop four major times totalling just over 2 months total time. Yet each time our dealership (Beaverton Porsche — even though we did not buy it from them) stepped up and gave us a new/newish Porsche loaner. It was last there three weeks ago and very nicely everything since it last pick up, both software and hardware, has been working consistently excellently.

As to our road trips, EA stations in the Pacific Northwest overall work well with quite a few new installs with 350 kWH chargers. Also as others have mentioned above, we nowhave the Tesla network should be wish for parts of our next road adventures.

So in spite of too many serious hiccups, we love our Macan. BIG fun on curvy, country roads and even enjoyable as a local errand runner — so much so when its lease is over, we will get another Porsche EV.

As to those who are road trip concerned, we have enjoyed our trips, and spending an extra 15 minutes each singular or dual charging stop on a full day being just a slight inconvenience. But if we were to need to do a L O N G distance road trip in a short amount of time, we could always rent a vehicle for that purpose.

One of our loaners was a brand new Macan ICE, and candidly while it functioned perfectly, it was truly outdated in so many ways compared to our Macan EV. As was another loaner a brand new Cayenne ICE, i.e, it also felt outdated. Did not enjoy filling up their tanks expensively several times, as for our Macan EV we use our Level 2 EVSE in our garage 99%.

We understand that we all have different priorities. But our switch to EV’s (our Macan is our 3rd) will remain forever.

I realize how incongruous it is for me to talk about loving EV’s because they save operating costs, but they have huge acquisition costs. Nobody says (me) we performance vehicle owners are completely rational. Rationality would mean we would be buying Toyotas, not Porsche’s.

The visits to the dealer should be less frequent if stuff doesn’t break as much as on ICE / hybrid vehicles. Audi had a yearly maintenance schedule on their E-tron (excessive IMO); every two years on the Macan seems much more reasonable, and less frequent than I experienced on my ICE Porsche’s.

With respect to the OP, I’ve had almost no problems with travel / high speed charging / Porsche routing. Over 3.5 years (Audi and now Porsche EV) I’ve had to wait only once or twice due to congestion. I’ve had one or two stations that didn’t work, but just moved to the adjacent station. And that is going to challenging places where there is a dearth of chargers (southeastern Utah, southern Colorado, northern Arizona).

New trips take a bit of effort. On a long leg that I’ve never driven, I do some planning the day before. That planning doesn’t always work out, but I’ve never felt high anxiety. On major highways in the US, there now are fast chargers every 75-100 miles, at least where I have been driving. And, of course, for long legs that I drive more repeatedly, I know exactly which stations I will be revisiting. It takes a bit of time to learn how to be successful as an EV owner, but IMO it is worth sticking with it and getting through the learning curve. Thinking about visiting a gas station seems so foreign to me now.
