My dealer offered me two already configured mecans, where one is Mecan base model with the Mecan S 20" and the other is a Mecan4 with Offroad design 21".

Trying to decide between the two, I think both looks nice but the mecan S 20" better, but I prefer the Mecan 4 so its a dillema what to sacrifice - front engine vs wheels specs.

how is the ride quality/comfort/range is in that aspect? How much of a difference is it?
Mostly concerned with potholes damage, and wife-curbs damage, I guess tires with sidewalls 50/45 is better in that aspect significantly over the 21" 45 front/40 rear

You already summarized it well.
Having both 20 and 21 inch I don’t really notice a ride quality difference though.

I would rather pick the model (base vs 4) you want than let the wheels decide.

I feel a bit neutral towards either mecan or mecan4, it doesn't seem to be a big difference on paper, how does it feel it reality? any chance you have both or both your models are the same?

Being only additional 40-ish HP to the front wheels/0.5s faster on acceleration, it's hard to use the trim as a differentiator.

How much of a difference it is that extra 5% on the sidewall, would you say its a big deal curbs-wise?

I’d be looking at the rest of the spec, some bits I couldn’t live without like power steering plus, the rear side airbags etc. before I’d be looking at wheels as the decider.

I had a long term loaner, with 22', and I bought a macan 4 with the 21; off road wheels. In the UK, I found the 21' tramline less. And of course you have a bit more protection from damage. I'm very happy with the 4, I came out of 2 x I-Pace.

The difference in base vs 4 is mainly all-wheel drive vs rear-wheel drive. I can't really judge what you need but for me all-wheel drive was a must for a big car like this.

Don't have any problem with curb damage on the Macan, the wheel cameras are very good and the wheels are big regardless.

20" will.be.more range efficient as will the base Macan which is rear wheel drive only.

Ride quality - you won't notice but ideally the option of air suspension would be better. On paper 20" will offer the better ride.

Personally I would take the 4 at a minimum for traction and safety reasons.

All cars have power steering and the "plus" simply adds speed sensitivity. Not essential but should be standard IMHO given the low cost of the option. At one point it could be added as a Function on Demand (FoD) if omitted from a Taycan build.
