IMO, Taycan and Macan are in completelly different league… sports car vs SUV….
taycan is (and will be) head turner, while Macan is (will be) just another SUV.
As long as i’ll be able to ingress/exgress low, i’ll keep it…just give me a real range up to 500km.
You're not wrong, I'm an unusual buyer. I wanted an EV with 250+ miles on a charge, good driving dynamics, styling that doesn't scream "I'm trying to be futuristic", from an existing manufacturer with plenty of service centers, and at least as much cargo space and luxury as my previous BMW X1. There's some other things in there as well, but apparently restrict things quite a bit.

The good news is that by the time I hit 4-6 years in my Taycan (only at ~6 months right now), the choices will be much more expansive, and hopefully even easier to purchase without waiting 9 months. As it stands, the most interesting options that seems to be on the way would be the A6 Avant (or more likely allroad in the US), some of the Volvo/Polestar crossovers/wagons, and Porsche Taycan/Macan, with MB feeling like they're getting close to something I might like, and Rivian being interesting if they get their service act together in that time.

I’d love to have pickup like Rivian, but as you said, i prefer a car with good service network as well.
Maybe Ford?

No info on the PCM – and exactly what OS it will be based on – is if confirmed it will be the new (and delayed) vw.OS ? If so, I hope it won't result in Taycan's current OS getting a bit abandoned as I assume that newer Taycan's will eventually move over to it.
I wouldn’t worry. Any new owner will have a couple years grief! I’ve had three new Porsche models as my last three main cars! Ask me how I know?

Could you expand a bit on why?

My one bit of trepidation about going from a Macan to a 4CT is ground clearance (in the wheel travel sense, not ease of entry or driving position). I'm kinda hoping that's not your reason for wanting to go in the opposite direction.
After two Macans, no ground clearance problems with the CT4, even with the lowest setting.

On the other hand, you have to be careful with the front overhang, which is more important.

If I ever leave the CT4 for a E Macan, it will be to have a shorter car and 50 miles range more ...

The software will be the VW group's shared Android Automotive-based software. Should be a solid upgrade, Android Automotive performs very well in every car it's been used in so far.

I was interviewing with CARIAD for a position working on it. Ended up going with a different company but it was very hard to not go for CARIAD.

My only question (as it relates to Taycan) is: With Porsche knowing what they now know in regards to battery buffer usage,
Will they open up a few extra kw to Taycan owners? That could equate to another 30-50 miles which is not insignificant.
As a workaround, I'm considering charging my Taycan to 100% regularly. When I first got my car, my dealer told me the 85% SoC recommendation is overly conservative, and that charging to 100% does not affect the longevity of the battery because of the ~10kw unusable buffer. I didn't believe it at first, but now I'm having second thoughts. IF this is true, it means we can safely get an additional ~50 miles of range per charge with daily driving, without Porsche needing to make any changes to usable capacity.

I am not so sure. When I received my 2020 4S in October 2020, Porsche's official recommendation was to limit charging to 85% SoC, unless you would go on a long trip that same day. A year later, in 2021, they reduced that recommendation to 80% maximum. Is it now 85% again? Doesn't sound as if Porsche is too confident in the protective effect of the large buffer.

Manual in the my Porsche app still states 80% for MY22 cars


  • Use the timer function to program a high-voltage battery charge level of approx. 80 % for daily use of the vehicle without long journeys.

I had a Macan Turbo loaner when my Taycan got the software upgrade and winter shoes mounted. What a disappointment! :eek: I have not driven a petrol car since I took delivery of my Taycan exactly one year ago. It is funny how quickly one adapts to the new EV world. Driving the Macan felt like coming from a space shuttle to a steam train. The character of the car ruined by that turbo-lagged petrol engine, slushy auto transmission and boomy sports exhaust. Very much looking forward to an EV Macan! :)

I believe the recommendation is always the same.
80% for DC charge
85% for AC charge

I believe the recommendation is always the same.
80% for DC charge
85% for AC charge
AC or DC is irrelevant - 80% for daily use. Just don't let the battery sit at 100% for long time periods - that's all.

Like a few lookers on here I have a deposit down for the Macan EV, believe I'm #10 with my dealer. The headline figures we are all seeing is the 600hp/700 odd NM of torque and the 100KW battery but what output will the normal versions have and will we see a similar lineup to that of the Taycan as in 2WD, 4S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S with this model being the one with the 600hp.

Price is the other big question.

Well to me price matters, ideally I want the full 600hp version but I wouldn’t fancy paying near £100k for it.
