I just received an email from Porsche with My Porsche: Link and activate your Macan

They are also offering a tracker. The cost of supplying and installation is £750.
Is anyone considering this?

ahhh ok - yeah - you need an iOS eco-system to find your vehicle - have you consider a "tile"

https://www.tile.com/

I believe they work for android

the celluar stuff is 'better' - but the tile/airtag approach is pretty cheap and works almost as "well" - my buddy did euro-pickup and he had an airtag in his 911 GT3 - even got the occassional update form milddle of the ocean - presumablly when some crew member walked by his car and the phone in their pocket was connected to ship's wifi…LOL

just a thought - you can get the airTag/Tile for cheap while you continue ponder a "real tracker".

A real locator?
For example, what would you recommend?

The main disadvantage of Tile is the tracking network only consists of the phones that run the Tile app (and explicitly grant it permission to always run in the background), vs. Apple's tracking network of almost every iOS device, or Google's network of most Android phones in the past few OS releases.

Awaz - did you get the Porsche tracker - if so is the service good and also reliable. I need a tracker fitted for my insurance cover. I was really annoyed to be told that if I get a tracker installed I would invalidate the warranty. I have an excellent tracker in my present car with a small token - whenever I have forgotten the token or somebody else move the car I get an immediate text asking if it’s a real alert. I’ve read the Porsche Vodafone system is not only expensive but rubbish. On top of the £ 750 there is a £ 300 / yr subscription. I’d much rather have had a tracker fitted Not reliant on Vodafone.

I went for the Porsche Tracker for insurance purposes. I think the cost was £525 installation and £275 subscription. I had these on the Taycan's for 5 years with no issues at all

No, I never got any tracker in the end.
Considering the cost, I will probably just get a sticker “Tracking Vehicle Tracking Tracker System Fitted😜

DavidL - my dealer has said the supply and fit is £ 750 payable to them and then the subscription circa £ 300 to Porsche. You didn't have any issues with it but was the monitoring of it up to scratch

Why would you need a tracker DEVICE (specific piece of hardware) when you already have everything in the car: GPS, OS, CPU, Internet access and 95kw battery ... so Porsche "just" need to develop a "tracker sw" installed / embedded by default in the car OS (it s base on android after all), link this tracker SW to our My Porsche app phone (via usual secure sign/authentication process) and we should know where our car is at anytime !!! And the good thing is the "tracker" becoming the car itself it s quite difficult to remove or jam it 😉
