Porsche charging service UK

I recently took delivery of a Macan 4S, and it comes with the Porsche charging services included for 3Y. This service provides:

• Unified authorisation via the car/Porsche app
• Aitomatic payment
• Discounted rates. which seem unified across Porsche partners

It seems brilliant, and I wasn't expecting that from the pre-sales discussions - weird the dealers don't mention it more.

I have only briefly checked how competitive the rates are, Ultrafast for example:

• Porsche dealerships and Ionity 350kW, £0.39/kWh
• Others like Gridserve 360kW, Osprey, BP Pulse, £0.59/kWh
• AC charging £0.39/£0.44/kWh

Checking BP Pulse directly, with subscription, is slightly more expensive £0.63-0.74/kWh, so it appears that Porsche have competive rates.

I have used the service only once, in app approval to start charging, and it worked seamlessly.

Fully agree.

I think it's one of the things about the Macan that really makes it a "Premium Experience" (whilst some things are definitely not )

No need to worry about multiple cards / apps / neatly integrated into the Infotainment & App. Also supports Plug & Charge and even has competitive rates.

Though my favorite bit are actually the Porsche Charging Lounges that exist in Germany/Switzerland/Austria. I have two on my most common routes and it's always a pleasure to charge there. Good price, good coffee, clean toilet and never busy.

I think Porsche should definitely advertise this more. This was one of the biggest positive surprises after purchasing a Macan.

Plug and charge works well and more recent inclusions of MFG, GRIDSERVE, Shell and BP certainly help its value.

Not sure I’d pay the £15 a month thereafter mind. That’s a few extra KW’s to break even.

I’ve been generally more impressed by the increases in infrastructure over last few years. I’ve not found a public charger that hasn’t hit anticipated speed or maxed out.

VW are a part owner of IONITY, as are Merc, BMW, Hyundai and Ford. It’s the manufactures adopting the Tesla charging model.

I don't need to use the App as Plug & Charge works really well on GRIDSERVE that I favour. GRIDSERVE are expanding their Forecourts and they are similar to the Porsche Lounges. - Airconditioned Lounge, bookable meeting rooms, a Costa and about 20 ultra chargers.

The nice thing about the Charging Service is that even with the free option you maintain most benefits: simple rates, one card, plug&charge, Charging Lounges. The "only" thing you loose are the competitive rates (which for some is of course the most important benefit).
As I charge very little outside home I'll probably just keep using it with the free tier after 3 years, mainly due to the convenience. And even with the free option you get 49 cents on the Charging Lounges which is where I charge most often anyway. And if you go on a long trip one can always book it for a month.

Gridserve now 59p against their standard rate of between 82p - 89p. There is a blocking fee - DC after 60 mins is 20p / minute.

What do they charge at GRIDSERVE for charging Porsche?

I mentioned in the first post, Gridserve are 'other' partners, so £0.59/kWh - that's what I see for Stevenage on the A1(M) in the app (under navigation>charging).

Come to think of it, do others see rates in the charging tab of the app - tap a charging station on the map, then tap the name at the bottom for details:

I never see to get a fast charge when using IONITY chargers are service stations. I got roughly 100kw when travelling back from London at night times. I was at Birmingham and Beaconsfield services. I hit 250kw at porsche centre Chester and IONITY at a different station in Birmingham.

It's really nice when you can charge so quickly. I used a medium speed gridserve charger at Bicester services and that only gave me 10kw charge speed, it doubled to 20kw when the car next to me finished and left. I feel like these chargers never hit full speed of there's lots of people using them. It really is as good as a petrol car if u can hit 270kw though!

I've never got my car to charge on Ionity !! It works ok with gridserve and even Tesla
