At delivery my MacanEV AC was not working. When I dropped it off for service I was told that it required a replacement part. That part is not in stock and it will take 2-3 weeks to get. I told them to give me the car until the part comes in but they said they can’t because it also serves to cool the battery and Porsche will not allow me to drive it.
In the age of overnight delivery this (2-3 weeks)seems absurd.
Problem is that I have several trips to take and instead of being able to use the Electrify America charger credits I will have to pay for the gas. I’ve already spent over $100 and will probably have to spend another $2-400.
What should I say or do about this?

I received the car on November 21. All is well. I took it on a 600 mile round trip from Nj to VA. And it worked perfectly. The dealer knew I had the trip and worked overtime to ensure that I had it back.

Got my Macan turbo 2 weeks ago. Hadn’t needed to turn on the AC until today only to realize it doesn’t work. No cool air coming out. It also switches to off when I push the selector to AC automatically after 1-2 seconds. Hoping it’s not associated to battery cooling. Pretty disappointed to be having this big of an issue this early on in ownership. I got out of Rivian due to poor reliability and wanted to go for a reputable and reliable brand.. First time Porsche buyer, so far not the best experience. Service appointment is a few weeks out, which I guess I will waive frustration since the major holidays are coming up.

I have some other issues, door alignment and interior door creak on closing and opening door that I want them to check out at the visit.

I join all herein the say am sorry and feel your pain. Crazy that Porsche - champion of ICE, TRANSMISSIONS, SUSPENSION, AERODYNAMICS, feels free to use us a real world Beta Testing sites.

I’ve owned 14 Porsches since 1987, including I was one of 60 PCA members who received the exclusive 2016 911 GTS Club Coupe.

Never an issue with any of my 911 cars manual (1 auto) and the Panamera I owned and drive.

I waited for the many bugs to be dealt with for 3 years on Taycans. I was told they did and took a years of real world testing before commercial production. I was “naive” and got on the list for 1st official production of cars to the US.

Wow. Was I wrong.

By the way, the 12v battery needed to unlock the car doesn’t connect to main battery. It died in a climate controlled building garage after 1 week alone while I was on a biz trip.

Main battery had 87% charge?!?!

Needed to unlock car to put it in neutral for flat bed or towing.

Emergency procedures wouldn‘t work as codes mysteriously self deleted.

We had to “break in“ to the car with a flat crow bar damaging trim outside and in. Seeing the window pried open made my heart sink.

Dealer rebooted and reloaded all software! Needed a week for codes from Germany and daily tests to ensure it was fixed and. It happened unexpectedly again. Car was 8 weeks old and <2k miles.

Took 1 month door to door with dealer loaner. Got it back. Couldn’t recognize Electrify America changers, but was able to recharge with ChargePoint and other brands. After 4 visits the car runs great. 😊

No one can assure us/me this won’t happen again….

Porsche makes amazing ICE powered cars in all shapes, sizes and level of performance.

EVs. Beautiful when they work. No so much when they don’t. 😉

For their price tags, I’m betting on Porsche ICE powered vs EVs until reliability 😳🥹 and OTA software 😉😁 updates come to a Porsche EV near us…. 🤣

This doesn't make sense to me. If it never connects to the High Voltage battery, it would quickly be depleted.

Obviously your 12V battery did die in a short amount of time, but the reason for this had to be something other than there being no connection between the HV and 12V batteries in the Taycans.

Hi. Thanks for your note. Please contact Porsche if you’re questioning my statement that the Macan 12v doesn’t feed off the main battery. In most recent model Tycans left in cold weather 1 week their batteries are dieing. I just learned this last week when I went to pick up my Macan after software updates. It’s a cold hard fact. My case was extreme as codes wiped out mysteriously. That required a complete reboot and reloaded of all software. This was extreme and worse than the 12v dieing which is bad enough. Best wishes to all fellow Porsche EV owners. With 12 v dead if codes are still in car the emergency key fob over the vin and pulling multiple times the door handle in “open the door” mode allows the doors to open. In extreme case pop the cover on the bumper and use jump start cable on wires that are accessible. That pops front hood open. Proceed to remove protective covered inside truck for access to contacts for jump start juice. Doors open. Regular key allows us to press start button the turn on car as main battery is still charged.
that’s how our Porsches are built. Not seamless. But works.

I believe it does when the car is on. But the 12V battery may get discharged during long periods of time when the car is off.
Hi to All!
I replied yesterday about my experience re the 12v batt dieing and the extreme effort to open the front hood to jump start the car.

One fellow Porsche owner was surprised that the 12v doesn’t charge off the main batt while parked as in my case the main batt had >80% charge.

the 12v gets charged while driving the the main batt. If parked a long time the 12v can run low. Also, Porsche suggests not to park under hot sun, but under shade or in enclosed garages with temps 32-68 F if possible.

Not wishing to bore fellow owners, I went back through the threads as paste in below some findings.

1.
I recently returned from a 2-½ week vacation to find I couldn't get into my Macan 4. The 12-volt battery had discharged during my absence, and so the car couldn't be unlocked. Access to the 12-volt battery is through the hood, but there is no mechanical way to open the hood. The only other way to open the hood is though a cumbersome process which requires an external 12-volt battery (see the manual on "emergency hood release"). In my case, I was advised to have the car towed to my dealer, who opened the hood and was able to jump-start the battery for me. The process took almost an hour for three experienced Porsche mechanics. I hate to imagine having to do this myself far from home. I do own a 12-volt portable jump starter, but having it in the car would do me no good since, with a low battery, the hood is not accessible. This seems to be a serious design flaw. It appears that the battery draws quite a bit of juice when just sitting, and even a new battery (my car was just 3 months old) may not be up the job.

From now on, when I go on vacation for a week or more, I'll connect a trickle charger. You might want to do the same.

Is there an internal indicator that tells you the 12-volt battery needs service? Seems like they have tons of other warnings...that one sounds like a useful one? o_O. Not withstanding that, is there a service schedule for the battery? I did not see one in the manual. Maybe Lithium-ion batteries do not need to be checked like lead acid batteries but surely there is a life cycle health check of some sort so you know when you might need to replace it?
I do not know of an instance of a health check for Li-ion 12v battery.
I know that regular lead acid batteries are checked for capacity and then replaced after they reach 50% capacity, that took 8 years in our 2016 Macan.

Based on what I'm seeing here, seems the genius engineers over at Porsche designed it so the 12V is only charged if the car is on? Otherwise you have to keep it plugged into a battery maintainer?

This is what the manual says, however, this does not give me assurances that 12v will not go flat without a trickle charger:

Yeah I stupidly assumed keeping the car plugged in meant the car will ensure the 12V is also kept charged.. but it doesn't appear to be the case?

^ Yes, @fubar.droid, that is how it works on the Taycan and makes no sense why it would be engineered that way.
