This was actually my assessment as well. I had my choice of two 4S, one with Bose and one with Burmeister. The Burmeister was better, but not almost 6k better. On my wifeā€™s iX (she wanted the larger vehicle), the premium sound upgrade was about as good as the Burmeister but half the cost and we both felt that was worth it.

After I decided not to go with the Burmeister, my sales guy made a comment about wondering why it was even offered in the Macan. The cabin is a little too small to truly appreciate the difference and there are much better ways to spend 6k in upgrades on it.

To each his own thoughā€¦
Yea I was a little surprised about the discussion in video about $2k price tag for the upgrade on all US specs it was $6k-7k for the upgrade to Burm. For $2k no brainer.

I've owned several Porsches and have had both the base sound system and the Bose. And for my money, the Bose isn't that much better than the base system (not that I'd probably care much even if it was). I find the base system totally fine, and will never spec an upgraded sound system and use my money elsewhere.

I have the base sound system on my 4 and am very happy with it (also the extra room in the trunk). The bass is more punchy than I expected. I havenā€™t heard the other ones so canā€™t judge how much better they are.
Really pleased to hear that. Ordered basic but realised recently that my current car has Bose and I might have been spoiled. Thatā€™s the only spec I was worried about. Another month until my delivery. ā˜ŗ

You also loose the majority of sub trunk space. Not the whole 60litre of it but Iā€™d say 50 of it.
However, it is not that this space is particularly useful.
For most Bose is a good compromise, I am happy I took it over standard.

I have the Burmester in my Turbo and find the clarity, separation and soundstage to be fantastic. However, I can't say that I've found the sub-bass to be particularly strong. Maybe a dumb question but how can I check that the subwoofer is operating properly (or operating at all)?
open the compartment, touch the subwoofer, feel it.

Share a little of my experience, with both 911 and Macan EV. This post is really for those interested in going beyond Bose or Burmester. I have listened to both, and stock Bose is pretty good, Burnmester better with clarity mids to highs, but both below my expectation for bass and power.

For both cars, the plan was to go further then stock and upgrade the full system. Iā€™m happy to spend my money for better sound, both in having a DSP, more and better amplification, and strong subs.

My local stereo shop has done all my systems in my last many cars. Canā€™t share any tech details on the install, but hereā€™s my experience.

With the 911, the base system is more difficult to upgrade, vs the Bose has many plug and play options from different vendors, to get a clean source and work from there. So on the 911 we chose the Bose and then replaced the Bose AMP, added DSP and MosconI amps, Focal speakers all around, including subs.

When we ordered the Macan EV, we had hoped the Bose upgrade path would be similar. However, the Macan EV has a brand Bose new amp, requires some R&D, that our vendor has been working for a new solution to mimic what we did in the 911. They expect to offer a solution in the next few months thatā€™s plug and play.

While we are waiting, we went ahead and replaced the door speakers with the same Focal P60 as the 911, and complementary rear speakers upgraded. These are running off the stock Bose amp and provide much better clarity then stock Bose. Until we get the DSP solution and better amplification mentioned above, this is temporary and expect to get a lot more on the front end Once we can tune it and add the better amp.

For the sub, we removed the stock Bose sub, and added a dedicated sub and amp, same as the 911. We have a bass control knob mounted under the climate panel, that is hidden but can be easily reached while driving.

Here a few pictures to share. For those that think this is way overkill, youā€™re right. But my daily commute, and pleasure drives, are very enjoyable. Enjoy!

Stock Bose Amp upper left, Bose sub removed. Very shallow depth but good room to hide signal processor and amp.

Focal Utopia sub and custom box. Small wedge design, Velcro holds it in place, easily removable if we need the full truck area. Hasnā€™t come out yet.

And hereā€˜s the 911 Cabriolet install. This one we went a little bigger on, open cabin, desire for lots of bass. With DSP and inside speaker amps fitting nicely under the passenger seat in the factory location. I designed the custom sub boxes, and made the customer leather straps that loop through the child seat hooks. Front trunk amps are for the subs. Very nice custom install by my shop, and have the same option to quickly remove the subs, in just a few minutes if I need the space.
