Can any help. I have a month old 4S on 22 inch wheels. I am struggling with the ride on uneven ground, where the car is wobbling side to side. On the same road my two other cars ride over the uneven roads around my house without issue. Porsche say the car is correctly set up. It is much less noticeable on sports pro mode, but do I seriously have to change chassis set up every time I get in the car! The dealership are totally unhelpful, but a Turbo driver at Goodwood today said I had made a mistake getting 22inch wheels and the 20 inch wheels he has give a really comfortable ride. They might not look as nice, but I’m now seriously pissed off and am looking for a solution That works as I don’t want to get rid of the car.

I’ve posted about the same thing in previous threads. I find the 22” Goodyear eagle supersport summer tires that I have (provided by Porsche) to be pretty bumpy but it was at least partially expected. It’s been discussed at length that the 20” is more comfortable.

I test drove one recently with the 22” all season NE0 and found it a bit more comfortable but not enough for me to swap. I have 20” winters so I will know for sure how much more comfy it is.

Out of curiosity what were your other cars and what is the set up on those?

I have a Range Rover which has air suspension, an Audi A3 and a Jaguar XK.

I test drove a turbo a few months ago with 22” wheels and felt the same, ride a bit rough and bouncy on bumpy roads. Bought a 4 month old turbo with 21” and ride is really good. We had ICE Macans, 2014 turbo with 20” and 22 GTS with 21” summer, 20” winters and I’d say the EV with 21” has better ride than the ICE GTS had.

Have the 20"- Pirrelli Scorpion combo as supplied by Porsche. Perhaps not a sexy as the 22", but very comfortable and quiet. Scorpions same as on a now disposed of Range Rover. Pretty good in general, although on both cars I feel there is subtle train-tracking on grooved concrete highways (not uncommon in the West). Nothing annoying, mind you, and maybe just in my mind. We opted for a car that the dealer had arriving this January, as we had a funny little feeling that the time to buy was now, not later. Would have chosen the 20" tires for the mileage gain in any case, as well as the better dirt road ability (again, not uncommon in parks in the West), but might have opted for different wheels.

The majority feeling on the Tesla group (we traded out of and up from a MY) was that Michelin Pilot Sport were the preferred tire. Had Goodyear on ours and found them noisy and harsh, but never switched them out before dumping the car, so I can't really compare.

I think the Macan is best with 21 inch. Perfect compromise between looks, ride quality and range. I don’t really understand why not more people go for the middle ground.

Because they prioritize one aspect over all others and are unwilling to compromise.

Personally I didn’t really like any of the EV aero wheels and was willing to give up some efficiency and comfort in return for a better looking wheel. If Porsche had a 21” RS Spyder I would have gone with that.

When I was looking for a car, most of the turbos in the UK had 22” wheels. They look good (I’m a fan of some larger sidewall on my tyres though) but dealerships speccing all the cars with 22” is a bit daft, esp as range is better with smaller wheels.

Yup would have gone for 21” myself except didn’t like any of them. Simple as that.

When I saw this thread, I thought of this tech talk given by Porsche about suspensions.

The last statement in the video is "drive your car harder" ... which I took as an order. ;)

I choose the 21" Macan Design for my summer configuration and a set of custom made BC Forged 20" for my winter set. They're significantly lighter than the originals 20" and absolutely way more good looking (at least for my taste), to enhance as much as possible the otherwise not so great cold weather efficiency of the car, especially with winter tyres on.
Reminds of Lamborghini Huracan "Jiano" wheels a lot...😉

Not sure why one would purposely get lower profile tires on a supposed SUV. A few years ago 20" wheel were considered large. Spending money on an appointed interior gives more enjoyment to the owner than trying to show off big wheels with a lesser ride quality. Personally, 20" wheels already look proportionately large.

For that reason alone I specked my Turbo with the default 20 inch wheels, they are not the most beautiful ones, but I will use them as my winter wheels, I bought the Macan 20 inch 4S design wheels as a winter set, the winter tires will now go to the Aero 20’s …
20 is the max for me, all the rest to fragile and the car gets bouncy on bad road (I have the air suspension)
I wanted a second set of 4S design wheels, but you cannot buy them as a summer set 🤷‍♂️

Thanks so much. Your comments and those of everyone else have been really helpful and it is clear 20 inch will be the way forward for me.
