Just got my Macan 4. Didn’t pay a tariff! Really enjoying it but having some problem with the Driver Assistance systems. My last drive was a Tesla Model S and enjoyed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Autopilot. You could use just ACC or also turn on Autopilot using the left stalk. In the Macan, if I activate ALK in the PCM and then the set the speed with the left stalk it also turns on ALK, which I don’t want on two lane highways. Pressing the button on the bottom of the stalk changes nothing. If I turn off ALK in the PCM and activate ACC, ALK will not activate with a push on the bottom button. So, ALK off in the PCM, cannot activate ALK with the left stalk and ALK on in the PCM and cannot just get ACC. What am I missing? Thanks for all suggestions.

The button on the bottom of the left stalk turns on/off the Lane Keep Assist, not Active Lane Keep.

When you click the end button of that stalk, the PCM center screen changes to show the buttons to enable/disable the 3 parts of assistance. The last option is the Active Lane Keep.

The names are really confusing!

The manual page for Lane Keep Assist is here showing how that button works https://manual.porsche.com/#/wpi/XA..._US/topic/id/927bf3bbc7a6590c8d24c0b34c06d679

I only have LKA, not ALK, so I don't know if this helps you, but when using that button at the bottom of the stalk, a quick press turns on LKA, but to shut it off, you need to press and HOLD for a couple of seconds. Might apply to ALK also?

Yeah, as far as I know there is no one push for ALK. I don't think you can program the diamond button for it either. You either press the button on the end of the stalk to bring up the assistance menu on the screen, and turn it on/off or you drill down the menus.

My ALK has a tendency to hug the right of the lane which I don't like, so its rare that I use it. Otherwise works pretty good on the open highway.

Thanks. I will look at this. I don’t think I saw the ALK when I pushed the end button on the stalk. Maybe I had ALK off when I tried that. You are right about confusing. In the Tesla, pull the left stalk once for ACC and twice for Autopilot. Easy Peasy. I will look at it tomorrow.

From the user manual it seem to imply that you have to go through the PCM to activate/deactivate ALK and have to take my eyes off the road. Seems poorly thought out. I will look at craz8’s suggestion tommorow.

Manually deactivate Lane Keep Assist
  1. Press and hold the S (Fig. 1) button on the control lever.
Lane Keep Assist is switched off. The corresponding symbol appears in the instrument cluster.

Manually activate Lane Keep Assist
  1. Press button S (Fig. 1) on the control lever.
Lane Keep Assist is switched on and active. The symbol A is displayed on the instrument cluster.

You'll probably find that you won't use ALK much and its not a problem. I've always found that remembering to press the left button when leaning to the left while patting your head more distracting than a glance at a menu and a quick touch on a clearly labeled button. . I don't like how Tesla does thing. After a couple months you will come to appreciate the Porsche experience.

I love the Macan much more than the Tesla but the simplicity of the Tesla system is way ahead of Porsche. I used Autopilot whenever I was on a limited access highway and use ACC to not speed in many parts of my daily commute.

Thanks for your input but my Macan does not behave that way. With ALK on in the Assistance Settings, when I push the end button on the stalk only ACC, Hill, etc. appear in the A tube on the dash. No ALK or LKA selection. However, a small pop-up on the main screen has a selection for ALK, Speed Limit, and LKA. So I can turn off ALK without digging through menus. Porsche must have had some reason to change the operation but it makes me have to look down to the center display to change functions. Not fun at speed. I cannot find anything in the user manual that describes this situation.
Thanks for your help.

You say that, but then describe exactly what I suggested would happen - the center screen allows you to disable/enable LKA. What I called "The PCM center screen" you called "the main screen".

The last section on this page of the manual talks about it "A drop-down menu appears on the Center Display"; but without a picture to show it in action https://manual.porsche.com/#/wpi/XA..._US/topic/id/800f91d7248d02b48d24c0b3729454d7

So I tried this today. While coming off the interstate using ALK onto a 55 mph two lane road I had to take my left hand off the wheel, punch the end button on the stalk, put my left hand back on the wheel and then punch the icon on the PCM screen to turn off ALK with my right hand, put my right hand back on the wheel and remove my left hand from the wheel again to activate ACC from the stalk with my left hand. Yikes! Looks like the IT folks never had to do this on the road. Why did Porsche not use the Taycan system in the Macan?
I love my Macan but my Tesla was a simple one pull on the stalk to activate ACC and two pulls to activate Autopilot (ALK). Porsche IT needs a little help.

After trying many options I am now happy with ALK being permanently off (so set in the PCM). I like driving my car but do enjoy and am glad to have ACC and parts of Innodrive. Not sure whether my replacement Macan EV will even have the Innodrive option selected.

I keep LKA off, I don’t need help when I’m actually driving the car. But I do use ALK almost every day when traveling on the freeway or a highway. It greatly reduces stress in rush hour traffic, accelerating and braking as needed and staying in the lane.

I engaged ALK and InnoDrive this afternoon while driving on Pacific Coast Highway through the burn area between Pacific Palisades and Malibu. The speed limit is 25 MPH on this stretch because there is still cleanup being done, and there is a heavy law enforcement presence enforcing it. I would have gone nuts driving there myself, too frustrating and tempting to break the speed limit significantly.

ALK and InnoDrive are some of my favorite features.
