What sound do your doors make when closing? Solid thunk or rattles?

Hi,

I have a dealer visit scheduled next Wednesday for a number of issues, the majority being rattling. Now that the temperature is warmer, it's like everything is coming loose including the suspension.

When the temperature was -16 C, I swear I was almost in tears at how solid the car felt. Going over bumps was smooth and silent, the rear hatch never made a sound and the doors closed with a solid single thunk.

Now that the temperature is warmer, the rear hatch (or something in the rear) rattles on every bump (again...it has already been to the dealer for this), each axle hits bumps multiple times instead of 2 solid thunks (one for each axle) and the doors (likely the windows because they are frameless) rattle when I close them. Do your doors do the same or should I add this to the list?

Reporting from the tropics here - nothing but 'thunks' on closing doors... Still wish there was a soft-close option as I find myself having to consciously use more force to close the last door...

I have a new Macan and the door close issue was a surprise. Some testing showed the door closes normally with a window open, indicating trapped air pressure is stopping the full close and latch.

Honestly, that’s been my guess as well in terms of air pressure ‘trapped’ in the car making the single/last door to be closed harder than the rest.

Easy way to validate is to open two doors and close just the one door - it should close without an issue; just the last door to be closed has to deal with the air trapped inside. Don’t know whether to be ‘happy’ as to how air-tight our vehicles are or not but honestly soft-close should have at least been an option imo. Maybe for the facelift and/or necessary to differentiate between ‘entry-level’ Macan and the Cayenne (pure speculation on my behalf).

yeah, the hard seals requiring the door to be closed hard...a soft close woulda been much better. same with the frunk.

Frunk closing works best with a slow smooth movement, like it DOES have soft close, with pressure at the the end.

Thunk for all of my doors and frunk.

Opening the hatch, but not closing it is problematic for me. It seems there’s a recall on the motorized part of the hatch mechanism. The part is on back order with an ETA of about 2 weeks. There’s a workaround when it sticks in the interim..

Imho with regards to the subject issue is all doors except driver side door are soft close. Driver side door needs to be slam shut regardless either first or last to close and as metal to metal sound when fully close and most of the time cannot be fully closed just one try. At least 2 or sometimes 3 tries to properly close. As I said, the other 3 doors it closes just one try, soft close.
