honestly Porsche deserves this - underpowered EVs are pointless and unnecessary - Porsches formula of infinitely dividing trim levels into 765 discreet sub trims doesn’t show the product very well for an EV drive train - another example of Porsche not adapting to new realities
ehh i disagree. I don't think porsche deserves this. 4 power levels, and any "trim" level you like...i think is great.
this guy just didn't choose wisely for what he apparently wanted.
now if they ordered the 4, unknowingly before the 4S was known...he may be disgruntled...

Yea a bit weird with the options. Acoustic glass, 18 way seats, sports chrono, but no 360 view camera system?? Then harping on why it doesn’t have it..? It was a special order by them.

I bought the 4 with the knowledge of having less power then my previous Volvo. Why? Because the only thing you can do with so much power in every day use is a drag race at the stop lights. Been there, done that. I just wanted a drivers car, and took the options that made it one… because driving this car is another level compared to Volvo… and for an every day commute there is plenty of power… and oh yeah: a bigger battery

Having come from a Lexus where there are no options other than internal and external colours, I find the Porsche approach far better. With Lexus and now Merc’s, Audi etc. if you want say a sunroof in Lexus world you have to buy the model that comes with it and at Merc you have to buy the package. This inevitably means you end up having and paying for ‘options’ you don’t want e.g. want a HUD, must have a Burmeister upgrade, want massage seats must have a panoramic sunroof.
With the Porsche approach you can have a lower performance car with a lot of ‘comfort’ options or a high performance car with an emphasis on handling.

Sensible. And exactly my thoughts.
I went for even lower version, the base RWD :)
This and my previous i4 was the same 0-60 in 5.4, but never felt or feel now that the acceleration is less than desirable in normal day-to-day driving on public roads.
In fact, the torque in Macan is much higher than it was in i4. TBH, any faster than this, then the true potential is only in tracking.
So, pretty happy with Porsche’s driving dynamics in what I have. And extra range is a bonus :)

What this video calls into question IMO is what do you really get for your money with the Macan 4 EV’s “Porsche Tax”?

You certainly don’t seem to get the overall performance that Porsche is known for…so then what are you paying for?

Like i said: drivability? A drivers car? Some of us are pleased with that in stead of pure performance with poor accessibility (where you have to crawl out of your car) and hard suspension. i m paying for luxury and drivability? And more or less 400 hp is not slow either… i do understand the choice for a performance car but the petrol macan in basic version had less power then this…

You get drivability and the state-of-the-art in battery charging for road trips. If you want to look of an example of less drivability and still state-of-the-art for battery charging, look at the Audi Q6 and SQ6 and pay a little less. I really don't understand how Audi missed me as a customer so much with the SQ6 and Q6. We have owned an Audi to go into the mountains for 13 years.

In 2 to 3 years, the Macan lineup will *likely* not have state of the art for battery charging but it will still be very good. It will always have drivability as long as the car lasts.

There is a good chance that our Macan 4 EV will last 10 years or more as a great run around car. We would love to get to 14 or 15 years. When I look back on this post, I expect to replace the tires, wheels, brakes, and do major maintenance on the air suspension. Hopefully, the battery will last 15 years with minor care procedures (typical charging for us is to stop at 50% charge for daily driving). And I hope cheap home solar panels are providing most, if not all, of the power to run this car daily.

at least in the US with air suspension being standard...you're gonna get great handling, great steering...great interior, great infotainment features... great build quality, reliability... is that not the Porsche Tax?

this is literally why i bought the porsche over the Lyriq (which i wanted first), cuz it was riddled with issues!

this video sounds like they just went and bought one of the model/demo Macan's that Porsche was sending all over the world, that had weird options... and nothing sucks more than having to pay for things you have no interest or intent on using.
but this is the auto journalist industry i guess...

reliability is TBD on the Macan EV - but so far so good for me personally.
