Survey: How old are you?

Chatting with a Porsche marketing person, they confirmed the average Porsche customer is about 55 years old.

EV tend to be computer on wheels and as a general rule, we could expect younger people to be more at ease with how to operate them (system wise).

It got me curious - how old are the members of this forum, now embracing (or struggling with) the Macan?

Is that because only 50+ folks use forums now days?. I've been on mailing lists, usenet, then forums since the early 80s and still find the forum format most useful for tech topic than some like facechat or talkingnet groups, although they can be more social

Yet the results so far are in line with the real world:
- almost 1/3 of users here are 45 and younger
- 1/3 of users are 46-55
- a little over 1/3 of users are 56 and older

This forum *is* representative of the Porsche customer base, age-wise at least.

Edit: interestingly, when I posted this, there were 65 votes.
With the additional votes, the 56+ tier is reaching almost 40%!

I suspect (in)ability to drop 6 figures on an electric SUV.

May not have that kind of money laying around and if they do, maybe they'd want a different type of car (like a 911, not a "family" car)?

Exactly.
The stories of those yuppies we used to hear earning mega bucks in Silicon Valley, Wall Street, City of London etc were/are into superfast sports cars like Ferraris, 911s etc.
Macans are sporty family SUVs for us middle-agers and olders

I suspect it’s just a demographics/lifestyle thing - either of needing your kids to have left home before you can/want to spend £100k on a car, which may naturally see you in an older age bracket; or if it’s a company car for the electric benefits, you’d need to be fairly successful in your line of work to bag yourself a £100k company car, which again may (not always) see you being in a later life stage and higher up the corporate ladder; or at the other end of the family scale, which is more my situation, you’re at the age where you need to be able to transport elderly patents around and trying to pull your 75+ year old infirm dad out of a Taycan is neither easy nor glamorous (speaking from experience ) Perhaps the older buyers also have a preference for a hip-height entry/seat height, rather than trying to unfold themselves from a Taycan with dodgy hips or the body of a wine drinker lol

For me at 44 when I placed the order, I needed an SUV for ease of parental care responsibilities, and had a fairly generous budget so long as it was an electric for company car perks, so went for the fastest/sportiest thing that ticked all the boxes and promised to have all of the tech I appreciated and utilised daily on the 4 year old etron I was replacing. Sadly the latter is currently lacking in operation on the Macan, but that’s another forum thread!

If it wasn’t for my company car budget though I wouldn’t be looking to buy my own Porsche until I probably got to that 60+ age bracket and my social life and travel bucket list quietened down.

The poll is likely to be more skewed by the ‘age of your average car forum user’ though. ‘Older and wiser’ usually means those with more experience know to search for and utilise forums like these before rushing off to Porsche with every little issue, plus younger generations tend to be more visually stimulated so wouldn’t look to a chat forum for guidance necessarily. YouTube would be first port of call I guess if you’re younger than Gen X.

I’m intrigued to know, however, what percentage of this forum’s active users are women?

I am 83. i also have an Abarth 500 electric which is much more fun than the Macan
