Electric Macan EV What is the optional 19.2kW charger Porsche talks about? 1739377338360-yf

Is there hope that we can have this as an optional upgrade?

Internal docs state that this is on the roadmap but retrofit is probably unlikely.
What is your use case and need for 19.2kW AC charging, which is rare.

i have 2 EV's and it would free up the charger faster to charge the other.

Porsche Mobile Charger Connect (PMCC) - 19.6kW for North America (22kW for Europe), now discontinued

Porsche Wall Charger Connect (PWCC) - discontinued I think

Porsche Wall Box (new Model)

looks very different here in the US maybe a newer model. Does not show discontinued.

That's the old one...at least in Europe, the image I posted is the only / latest one.

Same w/ me. Have a Macan w/ 11 kW and a Taycan w/ 19.2 kW, and a Porsche Wall Charger wired that allows 80amp. Sure would be nice to bring the 19.2 kW option back on new models (Macan and Tacan)

In Luxembourg Retrofit seems to be possible when available. Will wait to get confirmation.

yes that would be a great happy ending on this Macan. At least the early adopters wouldn't get punished for starting this Macan project for Porsche.

You can still find the older model in NA ($1000 sale price). Dunno if that is a clearance price.

PMCC in North America is max 9.6 kW since it's a mobile non-hardwired EVSE - there is 19.2 kW PMCC - only the PWCC (Wall Charger) can do 19.2 kW…

this is no such thing as a "mobile" EVSE that can do 19.2 kW in North America - it's illegal given building codes and lack of any actual modular "plug" for 100 amp power.

Retrofit for the 2020-2024 Taycans to upgrade from 11 kW to 19.2 kW onboard charger in north america is "minimum" cost $5,000 given parts costs ($1800) and extensive labor (30+ hours according to Porsche tech install documents according to my local service manager)

the onboard charger is buried in a rats-nest of cooling pipes and electrical wiring in the frunk - so there is a lot of removing things and putting things back that have nothing to do with the onboard charger - and then there is a couple of hours of labor with the PWIS to recode the car…it's a straight forward job, porsche has a procedure documented/supported, but it's just a lot of steps and a lot of disassembly and reassembly to extract this part and insert the new one…

YMMV

no word to date on if/when 19.2 kW onboard charger will be an option for future Macan EV's - so even less word if there would be a retro fit - and an even more confusing set of words given that the North American Macan doesn't even fullly utilize the 11 kW OBC it already has…

also I wouldn't recommend it unless you have "a plan" and access to a 100 amp North American EVSE - you're not going to run into a lot of 19.2 kW EVSE's away from home in North American - they simply are not much of "a thing" - and _IF_ you do encounter one I'll betcha it's a Tesla Destination Charger so make sure you have an 80 amp TeslaTap to be able to use it - there are few if any Tesla NACS 80 amp EVSE's - and even fewer 80 amp J-1772 EVSE's that you'd have access to when away from home…

there is way way way better way to spend money on options and service than a 19.2 kW obc for your Macan - soooooo many options I check the boxes for before hitting that bad-boy on the options list for a North American customer…it's not bad, it is in fact great when you can use it, but you're more likely to need spare tire than you are to run into a 19.2 kW EVSE when you're traveling.

soooo many options to spend money on before this one…at least for North America.

I would personally bet that a personal fast DC charger with a Level 2 (100 amp) circuit and 100 kWh to 300 kWh battery would be a better investment than a 19.2kW Level 2 upgrade on the car. I'm only partially joking, but (at least one place that I currently live) getting the permits for this is shockingly easy.

I think this is an excellent point, especially for the longer run as the batteries become more affordable or even as EV batteries are recycled into static applications. Reasonably affordable comprehensive storage systems, maybe associated with rooftop solar panel technology with the power consumption going both into the home and the vehicle sounds like a reasonable view of the near future.
