I am planning on using my Tesla home charger with an adapter recommended by Porsche dealer to charge my turbo that I am waiting on. I read on Facebook of a similar situation where they had problems with charger over heating and disconnecting. Has anyone who took delivery of their Macan ev and using Tesla home charger with adapter have issue? I would like to know before I take delivery of my car.

Unfortunately I can't tell you about the Tesla home charger but I use a third party charger (7.4 kWh) and I have no problems. Maybe could this be related to the adapter? I read somewhere of a US Macan owner in a situation similar to yours who doesn't have any problem but I can't remember if it was here or on FB.

By Tesla home charger, are you referring to Tesla Universal Connector? I hope not because that's what I got installed but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

No the Tesla home wall charger
should work fine with proper and well built adapter

one might consider swapping for a Tesla Universal Wall Charger (J-1772 & NACS) for maximum future proof - but it's entirely un-necessary - but the TUWC does come with a slick/built-in low-profile J-1772 adapter - but again swapping is un-necessary but the built-in adapter is super slick.

I'm using 3 of the TUWC's each with max 48 amp charge rate (60 amp breaker) sharing a total of 80 amps of charging capacity (100 amp breaker) - so I can charge 3 EV's at once with split load charging.

That’s the one the dealer recommended

I tried my Tesla charger with a very good adapter with poor results....it was so slow, For now, I am using the Porsche charger that came with the car at home...much better. I have poor choices with Electrify America free service...first, it's too far away. Second I always have to wait, and finally, it's an unsafe location. I have already been harassed while waiting by a homeless man. Makes me wonder why I gave up supercharging for life with my Tesla! For two months I had nothing but troubles getting the Electrify America to work...first software issues from Porsche and then issues getting the certificate. UGH! Its been a poor roll out to say the least.

there should be no reason that your Tesla charger is slow with an adapter…what is the charge rate indicated by your Macan on your Tesla charger?

NOTE: Electrify America does in fact suck - it sucks hard - and the supercharger network is superior in many ways. Until VW/Audi/Porsche complete their roll out with Tesla and a NACS/CCS1 adatper, if having a reliable/functional DCFast charging network is a key requirement for your needs you're limited to the following EV's which currently can use the Tesla Supercharger network if needed…
  • Tesla
  • Ford
  • Rivian
  • Polestar
  • GM
Porsche may have been a poor choice given your requirements and the fact that Electrify America is substandard.

other CCS1 EV Charging networks are only slightly better but tend to be slower:
  • ChargePoint
  • Blink
  • EVGo
  • many regional/state/local Charging stations
CCS1 EV's in North America are at a general disadvantage vs. EV's with access to the Supercharger network for reliable fast charging. That's the factual state of the EV charging world in North America…I hope it gets better over time and eventually most manufacturers will have access to superchargers…but not until 2026 in some cases…

I charge at home and rarely use fast charging because:
  • home charging is cheaper that public charging (it's like eating out all the time)
  • free charging is only free if you don't value your time sitting at charging stall
    • 10 min to drive to the station
    • 30 min to charge
    • 10 min to drive back
    • at least 50 min of my day "wasted" for "free" charging to get $12 worth of electricity at residential rates - not worth it to me personally.
  • I rarely drive more than 250 miles/day and I can charge overnight while I sleep

I think any other adapter other than the TeslaTap is really no good. There is a YT video where someone opens a TeslaTap and another well known adapter and the TeslaTap is just made much better. Most (if not all) adapters use wires to make the adaption from Tesla pin layout to J1772 whereas the TeslaTap uses solid bars of metal to make the adaption. Plus the TeslaTap body is a very dense and solid plastic (maybe Delrin?) which is not going to melt or deform. The TelsaTap is $300 whereas all the others are $30 to maybe $150. Buy once, cry once.

I agree, I have tested a TeslaTap with my Tesla charger and a friends Macan 4 and it works just fine. Must be your adapter, many from china are just plain bad.

I just received my Tesla Tap (SuperTap), read the instructions, and plugged it into my Macan 4 EV and then plugged my Tesla Wall Charger cord into the adapter. I gave it about 30 seconds, but no charge. The Tesla wall charger showed green a few time and both the car and the wall charger made some clicking noises, but in the end, no charge. The Macan charge light never went green. I was a bit concerned, so I disconnected. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? Thanks.

I charge mine with my Tesla Charger and the Tesla MiniTap. I have a SuperTap but it is for the Tesla Superchargers. I suspect you are using the wrong one. My best guess.
