I wonder how they do that when the two parts of the battery do not have exactly the same voltage.
Maybe some kind of balancing step just before starting charging. By burning some of the energy in a resistor between the two halves of the battery.
Yes extremely clever BMS.

Speaking from a place of ignorance on batteries, at the point they have switches, would they not be able to leave the higher voltage section open, only charging the lower one, until they equalize?

Ah yes, that would be a smarter way of doing. Start charging the lowest voltage half and connection the second half in parallel once they reach the same voltage.

More flotsam and jetsam in a sea of crossover suvs
They're clearly in demand, but the "Utility" bit is often compromised by fastback styling and now the EV battery pan means a high roofline no longer enables a correspondingly high ride height. I guess the "commanding" driving position is a big part of the attraction (not having a go at owners of such vehicles- my previous car was a Cayenne).

This is nothing new, but electronically controlling both compression and rebound on the fly independent of each other might be new? Anyone know an OEM that offers this? Or are they referring to twin tube dampers vs monotube?
GT3RS has that functionality

Fox did it a few years ago with extreme Offroad ATV suspension, as in the Can-Am Maverick.

Whoa! I've had my share dealing with 2 and 3 way suspension setups, but this tech being available from OEM would be a huge improvement in ride quality and handling.
...and how they work here.

Added to this is a powerful electric motor positioned behind the rear axle.
This will be more rear-engine than the current mid-engine-ish 992!

I'm all for a volume seller that will help Porsche keep the 911 and other enthusiast cars alive. Every Porsche griped about the Cayenne in the early 2000s, but Porsche as we know it would not be here otherwise!
