Anyone take delivery without Wash?

Considering asking the dealer not to wash the car in fear they might induce scratches into the paint. Curious for others who took delivery without it being washed how bad did it look. We will be excited to finally pick it up after almost six months but want to curb expectations on how bad it's going to look.

Probably a good idea. Mine was washed but covered in micro scratches. If you’re going to detail / ppf / ceramic coat anyway might as well tell them to stay away.

One of the most basic unspoken rules, to never let dealer wash your car.

It does not matter how it looks, let them do the minimum required to complete the PDI.

Then take it directly to the PPF/Ceramic shop to be properly handled for cleaning, paint correction, PPF and ceramic coating. However, if you do not want to spend on any paint protection, they will do the professional decontaminate and wash of the paint, since the car has been sitting at port and transported over for a long time with buildup that will scratch the paint instantly if washed in a usual way.

For example, our local shop owned by a race car family (Rahal), only charges $150-$200 to do professional cleaning and paint inspection.

I think I read somewhere that the clear coat can take 3-6 months to completely harden so does it make sense to wait a few months before adding PPF?

Thinking of doing the same after watching the Out of Spec video when they took delivery of the Macan 4 from the dealership in Colorado without the wash and only minimal prep; and then did the paint review and first wash.

The cars are protected by a plastic film during transport and shouldn’t look too bad at delivery unless the car is sitting outside at the dealer after the PDI.

The film application is dated and the film must be removed within a specified period to prevent it from bonding and damaging the clearcoat.

This always seems like overkill to me (if you have a good dealer) and something that the detail guys push as the case more than it really is.

Good to see the condition of the vehicle before purchase.

We had 2 911’s that got caught up in port delays and upgrades last year. Both sat for several months in the port. We insisted the dealer send both cars out for full detail before we signed. They accommodated at their expense.

For our Macan EV Turbo, it sat for a shorter time but also sat. They had it detailed and ready to go on launch day.

For us after dealer it was off to paint correction, PPF and ceramic.

For routine service I always ask they do not wash.

My dealer automatically had it detailed by a dedicated high end detail shop nearby. I'm not sure how common this is, but I was shocked by how flawless the car looked after hearing people complain about the way dealerships wash the cars. I have yet to find even a microscratch or swirl on the entire car (picked up 10 days ago). Weirdly enough, there was a Copper Ruby Macan 4 being picked up at the same time as mine, and I noticed very obvious swirls all over the hood. I wonder if they only send out some of the detail work depending on their in-house capacity.

In case folks are curious, mine is aventurine green.

I asked my dealer and they only use their shared in-house wash guy. They do not offer real detail service, I have to take delivery and have it done myself.

My 4S is also aventurine green.

Same here, I had lots of fine scratches which were very obvious under the showroom lights. I made the even bigger mistake of paying for a Porsche to ceramic coat it prior to collection. It wasn’t even properly clean
