the big misunderstanding is that porsche is for people that want a driving experience. (without risking their lives ) if someone does not value this it may be not the right car for them. of course there are also the looks..

i have never seen somebody complain about the software of a bentley or the consumption of lamborghini. nor the price of those cars.

Just a few days ago, we came back from a 2-week European trip - France, Switzerland, and Italy.
On the Switzerland roads, my base Macan was like it was sliding on silk, absolutely, zero noise from tyres, and not even wind noise. Again, as @pschloes mentions, it might be partly due to my presbycusis as well :)
Swiss roads are amazing, whereas in France and Italy they were noisy, somewhat crappy like we have in the UK. So, noise-wise, a lot depend on what type of roads you are driving.
Perhaps some Swiss contributors here can shed more light how good their road are.

By the way, I never found the base model sluggish in any way. Plenty of torque and kick whenever I needed. Even at Silverstone track, the base model was incredible. Mind you, no experience of Turbo or 4S to compare as it sounds from others here, they are a cut above.

i find all these review videos quite annoying and inaccurate TBH. He calls it a "base" trim, and i guess it technically is..but it has a lot of top options, 22s, passenger screen, crests on the headrest, deviated seats, etc...and calls the price "astronomical" ...mmm yeah.
says it was optioned with a "body kit" .....lol

*sigh* it's kinda hard to take any of these seriously. Sure, i'm sure there are some legit criticisms of the car, but in the days of rage bait and reviewers having a car for 2 hours... you just can't take a lot of these seriously

I also find similar issues in other non-Porsche products and always come back to the same question:
  • if not the macan then what?
I have the same sort of problem with my Jaguar I-Pace, if not an I-Pace, which they no longer make, then what; to which the answer is 'A Macan 4S'

this „tests“ give you the impressions that everyone of us had in the first two hours of test driving. this guy has no idea and did prepare nada.
i remember my first test drive of total 4. I had the car for 24 hours and was not impressed. i was solely focused on range, (driving like my grandma) did not like the hud (no idea how to adjust it) disliked the digital cluster in contrast to my 2017 macan turbo. i gave the car back. after two weeks i was longing for the drive experience. i watched every youtube test and came prepared. just enjoyed driving it. than i tried a 4s and a base and than finally i ordered the turbo. best porsche i ever had including the 911.

at some level we all have to remember any of these "review" sites are all screaming at the top of their lungs trying deparately to get "engagement" so they can drive their numbers - saying the same thing everyone else is saying and having bland positive reviews is typically not a way to grow engagement - also they work really really hard and have very very limited time with the vehicle…

accuracy and quality of information provided is only tangentially important…

talking heads trying to get bored eyeballs to engage so they can make a living…

also this is a very very crowded field with lots and lots of content being generated by lots and lots of entertainers - it's hard to stand out from the crowd unless you can get something no one else has…

I'm unsurprised by the level of pointless reviews and meaningless conclusions.

I have a 4S and though i havent owned other cars I love it, and did a lot of research and knew exactly what i was getting space and spec wise. My one gripe would be some interior components could be more premium feeling and would have liked the sleeker door handles like the taycan. But to each their own, I would advise everyone to take them for a spin.

So for for us (1 month into owning a base Macan EV), I'd say it's about 75% positive and 25% negative. There's a lot of things it does well (and should, at this price point). Love the suspension. Much smoother than the EV we were coming from, and the wide stance corners like a dream. (Granted, we selected it for luxury, not sports car, and keep it in Normal mode all the time.) The steering is a bit tighter than I'd prefer (you barely breath on the steering wheel and the car is immediately moving). But overall it's fantastic to drive.

Many of the features work really well. Automatically starting when opening the drive door is really nice. The walkaway lock & chirp work 100% of the time (and turn the car off automatically), unlike many EVs. The HUD seems to work really well, the info on the dash is good and easily customizable. Love that Altitude is one of the data points that can be displayed (surprisingly useful in an EV).

But for every 3 good things, there's an ever-present bad one (usually software) that can be infuriating. The media player is at the top of my list. That's the one that bites me most often. Nearly every time I get in the car I have to go back into SXM and select a favorite channel to get it to work right from there. And many of the streaming channels seem to get stuck in a buffering glitch where it skips a second every 20-30 seconds.

We find the seats very comfortable, but they're set in a ways from the outer sill of the car. Makes getting in and out more difficult than most cars. Minor thing but for seniors like us, we're finding it a little awkward to get out of the car.

The power charge port doors are super finicky. I'm running about 70% on getting them open with my hand. The rest of the time I have to go into the PCM to open them. Frustrating when you're standing there with the handle of the charger ready to plug in, then have to put it back while you hop in to open the port door.

Not trying to dismiss some of the complaints, the car system certainly has room for improvement. However, some of the issues are related to our own misunderstanding of how things work. For example, at the beginning I had trouble getting the trunk open with the “foot kick”. I tried kicking it with and without bending my knee. I tried a sweeping motion after watching a YouTube video. It was a hit or miss. Then I watched another video, I think from Porsche but I am not completely sure now (have watched so many videos by now), and realized that the secret was WHERE to kick with my foot and not how. Now the trunk opens and closes every time!
Same with the frunk. My failure was being impatient and expecting it to open as soon as I walked to the car. Now I realize that I need to let the car’s computer wake up for this function to work. Now it opens every time. Although I admit I may need to do a couple of swipes about 10% or the time.
I have not had any problem opening the electric charge door so far. I just lightly press on the back 1/3 and it opens.
These new options are great but are a little bit of a luxury. I still remember when I had to use a key to open the doors and the trunk and pull a lever on the drivers side to open the hood. Then came the key fob, another luxury even now. I just wonder when we will complain because the damned doors don’t open on voice command! Lol

Not perfect, but I could make a brutal video about any car. I’ve tried and owned many, no car is faultless and most have plenty if you look. You choose what you care most about and compare with the field of what’s available.

I have no problem opening the electric charging ports. I don't press on the cover, I just touch it very lightly with the back of my hand, and it opens. Do this, as @alxman describes, about a third of the way down the back of the port. Pressing on the port, as you often see journalists do in YouTube videos, isn't necessary. A light touch is enough.

Sometimes that works on ours. I try every method known to mankind. After 7-8 failed attempts of multiple methods (light touch, heavy touch, no touch, different spots, etc), I get in the car and use the PCM. Had to do that Monday to get the right side port open. The left has more success than the right on mine.

I really need to get in the habit of just using the PCM when getting out of the car at EA stations. Plug&Charge seems to be working well so I have enough time to grab the handle and plug in before the door closes. Doesn't stay open long. (Unless it gets caught on the flap... poor design).

Yes, unlike most cars that have the kick sensor in the middle, this one is on the right side. Kick there (to the right of the license plate), and it's 100%.
