Yes, completely agree. The planned departure thing is silly. They should just provide scheduled charging and that would be way easier to understand and manage.e

With my previous M3 I used the planned departure so that alongside the battery being at the requested level, the battery temperature would also be raised so that it could accept a recharge. I don't know if the Macan does that.

I previously had a Hyundai ev. Podpoint charger was set to work during cheap rate times. it was perfect, no problems. But the Macan is just so complicated. Also once I have set up timed charging in the car at night, do I have to cancel those timings if I want to charge during the day?

You can just tap “Direct charging” and it will override your settings and allow you to charge right away. When completed, you should make sure Direct charging is then turned off so that your schedule takes precedent again.

Maybe I already mentioned this, or someone else, it works for me and it starts immediately, to figure out the charging power and then after a while it goes to pauze and then resumes to finish just before departure time …

When reading all of these replies, I thought I might add that the Macan EV's battery chemistry likely makes it so that battery longevity *could be* extended by allowing the car's computer to optimize trickle charging with feedback from the BMS. Theoretically, charging at a lower rate with cues from battery temperature and state of charge could improve battery health.

I have no idea if this is actually happening and, we have no method of understanding battery health right now.

Scheduled Charging has several benefits. The most obvious is that it inhibits immediate charging providing the Schedule is activated (ON) and that Direct Charging (OFF) is not activated.

It has a secondary benefit of allowing immediately charging to be controlled by a third party e.g., my electricity supplier (Octopus) will charge off-peak (and at other times) as it decides fit, but requires a Scheduled Charge to be setup - usually about a week ahead.

If I look at the electricity supplier's App I often see that their schedule has been updating and my car is now being charged. Since I top up my car to 80% every night off-peak (and use the battery saver option to revert back to 80% if I change the setting upwards), I need the Scheduled Charging to always be set up.

Scheduled Charging also means that charging will start "when required" to "achieve" the expected level at departure time which is different to setting a start time and just hoping that there is sufficient to reach the required level or the need to calculate when to start, rather than when to finish. That's a benefit if rates at home are always lower cost than charging elsewhere.

Direct Charging also requires the car to be in-sync with the setting in the App. The most recent App update 14.0 seems (subjectively, to me) to alter this behaviour so that it controls the car better (more like a switch) rather than just hinting at what state the car should next adopt (so more like an indicator).
