A little bit of a disappointment, I guess. However, the current version is functional enough and has decent integration with the car’s infotainment system. So far, it covers my needs. However, it’s hard not to be greedy!

Really unfortunate...

"Apple's next-generation CarPlay experience is still nowhere to be seen following Porsche's announcement of a major upgrade of its infotainment system for 2026."

"The upcoming 2026 model year Porsche Taycan, 911, Panamera, and Cayenne feature an upgraded version of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, making it more responsive, adding Dolby Atmos support, and integrating Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. The new system brings the Porsche App Center, a kind of app store for the vehicle, to all of the new models."

It doesn't necessarily mean that CarPlay 2 is dead. This is just bringing the rest of the line-up, except the 718, up to the Macan Electric infortainment level with MIB3 based on Android Automotive. That is good news, a much bigger base of cars on the new PCM, more apps, etc.

Why they didn't do this when they facelifted the Taycan last year I have no idea.

I would not draw much conclusions for the Macan out of this.
The Taycan and other models do run on the Software platform called MIB3. Yesterday’s announcement mentions that this is a simple upgrade to that existing platform with better hardware and app support.

The Macan however runs on a newer platform with Android Automotive as a base. It is developed in parallel and does not necessarily share features with MIB3.

They probably did not want to upgrade Taycan and Co to Android Automotive as this would require fundamental changes which are outside of a regular model year update.
