Has anyone experienced an instantaneous (e.g. fast, but not persistent) braking on reverse, as if there was something the car was preventing you from hitting something, only there isn't anything there? I live in the city, and there are always things going on when reversing, but the car will slam on the brakes for <1s before regaining its composure, often multiple times in a single reverse motion. It's incredibly annoying and I'm pretty sure has to do with the blind spot protection, but it is inaccurate and irksome. There doesn't appear to be an obvious way to turn this off...anyone have a similar experience or solution?

Few times it happened to me:
1. First time I didn't have my seatbelt on so the system thought I was leaving the car and slammed the brakes multiple times while I was completing the reverse. Very strange.... Should have not allow me to go in Reverse in the first place
2. Second time was Reverse + seatbelt on and multiple warnings for side collision were triggered but there was just a bin.

Funny about the seatbelt thing...On my first couple of drives the ACC wouldn't engage because it said my seatbelt was unbuckled, which it wasn't. Maybe this is a buggy seatbelt sensor?

Same problem here yesterday when trying to park in reverse, slightly uphill. I was about 5 feet from the car behind and the car felt like I'd hit something, then refused to let me reverse for a little while, and suddenly took off faster than expecting. Very disturbing behavior that felt like sticking brakes.

I am not 100% sure whether I had my seatbelt on at the time -- but probably. I did get out of the car to check there was no hidden obstacle, and the same issue happened when I got back in. There were no indication or warning beeps on the dash.

If this is a 'driver aid' then I really want to disable it because it nearly caused an accident!

I don't have our 4S yet but I have this problem with my wife's car, Audi SUV. If the sensors are dirty, even heavy dust it will not let me reverse at all. I have to get out, wet my finger and wipe the bumper sensors. Maybe that?

The car was totally clean as far as I could tell. I did think that it might have been parking sensors -- but there was no audible warning, and I'd expect that if the sensors were falsely detecting something?

The other thing I suspected was the 'rear cross-traffic/pedestrian' detection. I was reversing slowly, parallel to the kerb, so it's possible that something on the sidewalk (a tree?), or a passing car was mistaken for a hazard. Again, you'd think there'd be a loud audible and visual warning for that?

My SA advised me about this during my test drive. Said that when reversing the safety system is overly sensitive and advised me to turn off the feature

That's a very depressing state of affairs -- and I can only hope that Porsche eventually fix the problem with a software update.

Cross-traffic detection is certainly a good thing in theory --- but having to disable supposed safety features or driver aids every time you want to do a basic maneuver is not great.

I guess my old Tesla used to moan that I was going to hit something every time I reversed out of my sloping garage driveway. I once had it panic-brake driving through an intersection in San Francisco because the road sloped up too steeply in front of me. That could have ended very badly.

i've had it kinda happen once. I was backing down my driveway and the car just kinda slowed down...didn't slam on the breaks or anything...no warnings beeps or errors...it just seemed like the car put on the breaks a lil...
i looked at the dash for a see what was going on...then just proceeded to back out as normal.

hasn't happened again

i wouldn't disable it...this issues doesn't happen frequently enough to take that sort of action.
go look at the Lyriq subreddit...it was a super consistent issue.
