I did a search but only found two other reference to this issue in a broader assistance systems thread. Thought it might be worth a dedicated thread.

I should preface the following by saying that I'm very happy with my Turbo that I picked up in April. It makes me feel like when I had my first car! I just want to drive it for the sake of driving it. So much so that I've decided not to stress about the guaranteed future value kilometres and to just drive it.

I've got an occasional and not very repeatable issue when I am reversing (usually slowly), the car will suddenly slam on the brakes. The first time I was reversing down my long driveway and honestly, I thought I had run into either the house or a person it was that abrupt and intrusive! Other times it has happened, I've been reversing into my very tight car space at work (got to love a space with huge pillars on either side to stop door dings ). I'm well practiced doing this so I'm careful of lining up both sides in the rear vision mirrors. Despite having a comfortable margin on both sides, it has again slammed on the breaks (sometimes more than once during the same park). It's the worst feeling as each time it happens, it honestly feels like I have hit something or someone.

The weird thing is that when it happens at work, it has only happened when I've gone out for a meeting and come back during the day. It's never happened when I arrive and park first thing in the morning.

Anyone else have this issue?

Mine does this only when the seatbelt is unfastened.

In my case, I don’t drive cars without a seatbelt so haven’t experienced that use case scenario.

Yes my 4S also randomly does the same thing while backing out of our garage. It has also randomly slammed on the brakes while going forward on one of the local roads and my drivers side blind spot alert sees ghosts all the time. I’ve had Porsche look at it and no resolution so far. I find it very unsettling because it happens randomly.

I have had this happen in my BMW. A few threads about that on their forums. For iDrive There is a setting specifically to disable park distance control emergency braking for those who found it too intrusive or unpredictable. Not sure on the Macan.

Personally I don’t need it to both show me all of the sensor/camera data/distances to objects and also brake for me if I get close to something. I might find emergency braking useful if we didn’t already have detailed parking views.

lol best time to slam the brakes is when people aren’t secured ?- it’s like it is reminding you the hard way.

Hi AndrewH and Hi to All Porsche Colleagues.

Joining in on this.

I too wear my seat belt religiously but…., I’ve had the same abrupt auto break occur.

My reversing abrupt breaking occurs regularly when:
1. I’m pulling out of vertical parking slots and there’s a vehicle coming I couldn’t detect in my mirrors and/or looking out of both left and right sides. Great feature. Saved me from unintended fender benders in case neither I nor the oncoming driver don’t stop in time.
2. In my work garage whether or not between pillars (Love Pillars / Hate Door Dings from sloppy/careless car drivers who have no respect for others around them), there are low lying obstacles, steel barriers and parked cars all around. It’s helped me avoid hitting something that wasn’t apparent in the mirrors.

It has not activated in forward movements.

Whilst my 1st week of commercial production vehicle had gremlins, after 4 major reboots, I’ve enjoyed my 10,700 miles so far. I too have the feeling of my 1st car and grab the keys of this versus other 2 ICE options in our driveway.

Thankfully, not all of Porsche’s “learning on the job” at the expense of Beta Testing owner’s foibles from their “over the top” use of semiconductor chips and software bugs included this safety feature which appears to work well.

This safety feature seems to work properly in my car.

Happy motoring. ?

Yes! This happened this week to me backing out of my garage stall. We have two single doors, and the whole time I am backing out it is beeping because the sides are close but this time it slammed on the brakes and I thought I had either run something over or hit something!!

This happens all the time for me and it's after sensors calibration.

Overall I'm deeply disappointed with assistance systems and software in this car.

LKA is way too sensitive and often corrects me on a straight road.

BSM can light up for 2-3 mins on highway resulting in car blocking lane switch:
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum/threads/blind-spot-monitor-lights-abnormal.21962/

Phantoms and false positives are very common in many scenarios.

It's dangerous, I've had several close calls due to these systems.

YES! I have this same issue with my Turbo (with seatbelts on and only observed it when backing up). It stops hard and is extremely unsettling to anyone in the cabin when it slams on the brakes. Has indeed made we wonder if I hit something. I have flipped through the PCM but not found a way to disable the ‘feature’.

mine did it once when i was backing up towards the front of another car... however, when i back up towards the back of another car (which i do almost daily) it never did it...
I too have a long driveway i need to back out of...and i get a slow down at times...like it slows the car...but not a brake slam

Had this happen to me 3 times now, all while reversing slowly. It feels like I accidentally hit something which freaked me out (cuz I'm watching and Im like WTF did I hit!?!?!?!?). I'm glad I wasn't the only one experiencing this! I thought it might just be the sensors picking up an object and slammed on the brakes to prevent me hitting something? I'm not sure but it def scared the shit out of me.

if there's anything moving in the background...it'll do it...
even cars across the street or different level (height)...as my neighbors driveway is a higher than mine...but if i'm back out of my garage, only the wheels of their car is visible in my screen cuz they're higher...and it'll still warn me and hit the brakes if my neighbor's car is moving at all

Yes, happens to me but only when slowly creeping backward without pushing the accelerator pedal. I think maybe the car thinks that I am not paying attention, lifted my foot off the brake and rolling backward without knowing it.
