Sorry for being slow, but I'm not sure what the goal of this is.

So would it be that when you use the car, you would get your phone, launch the app, unlock the car from the app, then get into the car, remove the key from the faraday bag, and start the car and drive off? Then when you park, you would put the key back in the faraday bad, get out of the car, pull out the phone, launch the app, then lock the car?
Yes….but just think of all the extra things you can carry around in your pocket without the burden of a key fob o_O

I had several errors when trying to unlock the car via the app + you need an internet connection. If there is no internet, you can’t unlock the car. At this point I would highly advice against this plan, but you do you. Have a plan b at least.

Yes, I did not say it was a perfect workaround. However, it does allow you to not have to carry a key and for people like myself and many others that is very important. I almost did not buy this car because of the lack of digital key. My last car, an X3M Competition, even had digital key.

Can someone translate what this says? Does this mean it will be sent to all existing Macans or only installed in NEW production as of 25/25?
only Porsche knows and so far nothing in writing to provide any clarity…

The Phone-as-key does not need the internet. Most smartphones have NFC (near field communications) that allow it to talk to the car (among other things like smart locks, payment by tap etc...) and it seems that the car has support for NFC. I have not seen or used it for car, but I presume the Porsche App will add a "card" to your Apple Wallet (or Android equivalent) so just hacking the phone on you will let you unlock and start the car. Theoretically, this would work even of your phone battery were dead.

The Macan EV has UWB. My guess (which is all we can do) is Porsche plans to implement Car Key using UWB, which allows for comfort access just like the key fob.

No one said different. He was talking about using the app without phone as a key

Any theories on whether this would require comfort access? I chose to not spec that but my freeze date is about a month away.
comfort access is standard equipment on the macan electric. from the configurator…

Comfort Access
Keyless entry and drive with door handle sensors for locking/unlocking, foot gesture control for the rear tailgate and opening of the front trunk with a swiping gesture.

yeah, im a lil late to the party... But using the app to lock/unlock is using cellular signals.
comfort access probably uses bluetooth as you need to be within a certain distance of the car.

the phone as a key will most likely use NFC, which will require the phone to be IN the car.
Same as how you can still use dead keys to start the car by putting it on the pad in the center console. that's most likely where the NFC radio is

For it to be Apple CarKey it will need to be UWB, not NFC. UWB is far more advanced, been in some cars like the BMW iX since 2022 and works extremely well.
