[Poll] - Porsche charging specification lie? Macan is not allowing 11 kW max charge rate - capped at 40 amps? 9.6 kW max rate.

Can you get your Macan to charge at more than 9.6 kW from an AC EVSE?

  • I have never see max charge rate above 9.6 kW but only have a 40 amp or less EVSE

given testing I've done and others it appears Porsche is shorting us on the 11 kW onboard charger claimed in Standard equipment and the owner's manual.

My 2024 Macan Turbo does NOT in fact support 11 kW charging - I can not get it to exceed 40 amps (9.6 kW)…

this poll is to establish if _ANYONE_ world wide has seen their Macan charge at more than 9.6 kW reported inside the vehicle or externally on their EVSE

if not - Porsche is limiting Macan's to 40 amp or less max charge rate - either intentionally or unintentionally…

I'd love some data to see if anyone has this working "to spec".

see original thread for more details…

Voted #2.

Note, this seems to apply to both Macan Turbos (OP) and Macan 4's (mine). I suggest that anyone who votes #2 or #3 make sure to note which version you have (Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S, Macan Turbo) and also if you are not in North America, where are you?

(OP, @daveo4EV, I believe, is referring to North America models, but this may or may not apply globally.)

I wonder whether it’s a problem with having the right owner’s manual for the region rather than a misrepresentation. When looking at the Technical Specs for the US and the ones listed on the Macan I ordered,
Electric Macan EV [Poll] - Porsche charging specification lie? Macan is not allowing 11 kW max charge rate - capped at 40 amps? 9.6 kW max rate. IMG_6544
it only states: “Charging time for alternating current (AC) with 9.6kW (0 to up to 100%) 11.5 hrs”. Maybe their mistake was not clarifying this issue and so people have assumed that 11kW was possible?

there are two specffication the one you're quoting and the "standard equipment" link in the configurator…

here is the current "specs" from the "build your porsche" - standard equipment link on https://configurator.porsche.com/en-US/model/XABAA1/standard-equipment - this link and screen shot below is as of date/time of this posting!!

if you're getting more than 9.6 - please update this thread with your Macan model, your region, and the EV Charger (EVSE) you're using - thanks!

and a screen shot from inside the car showing more than 9.6 kW :)

And the Owner's Manual I referenced was loaded for my car, on my app, in the U.S. I re-downloaded the owner's manual on a different device today and it says the same thing--including 11 kW in the charging chart. Note it doesn't ask which manual you want--it appears to download automatically. Now the manual in places implies it covers multiple countries, but there's no such proviso in the charging chart (the typical remark in the manual is something like "depending on the country," and that qualification is absent in the charging table.) In any case, if anyone outside North America reports a higher rate than 9.6 kW, then that will tell us something at least.

So, as of this writing, 3 people have chosen option #3; one is in San Francisco, one is in Poland, and one is in the UK. So c'mon folks, please provide details, including what kind of power you are getting (e.g. voltage, single phase or three phase) and what kind of EVSE you are using.

And please, to be crystal clear: the question relates to AC Level 2 charging, NOT to DC charging.
