I always am amazed when I see people driving expensive new ICE cars when crazy great EVs exist.

I mean you got the money… why have something so inferior?

Especially now that the Macan EV exists and is amazing. How can you even consider ICE an option?

It’s nuts.

While i really enjoy driving EVs and will not go back to ICE. There are some very high end ICE cars that i get why people drool over and why they will keep being built for a long time. Think Ferraris and Lambos. Also like a fine mechanical analog watch; Patek / Ademars / Rolex do so well because appreciation for mechanics movements are popular again after the 80s-90s when digital and quartz timing instruments took over the market. I dont think electric vehicles are a phase, but i dot see a future for ICE vehicles for ultra high end market.

With our car coming in at the end of the month I wonder what this means for residuals as we were planning a one pay lease.

I get your mechanical engineering point of view but…
I don’t know. I’m at the point where I have no interest in ultra high end ICE cars, because it’s still just an old engine in them, whereas I’d be totally into an ultra high end EV, which is why I love the Taycan Turbo GT.
I actually can’t wait to see what some other groups do with EVs like how Porsche has totally nailed it.

And TopSpeed’s actual Porsche source is… IMO, if we each had just $1 from every auto-media that ran an article proclaiming that they have uniquely gotten information from an OEM that that OEM did not share with top recognized media…

I can understand the appeal of a super sports car like the 911 GT3 with an ICE engine, it's a lot of fun!!!

But wait a while, a few years, when batteries multiply density and power.

Can you imagine a 911 EV with a weight of 1400kg, a 1500HP engine, with a lower center of gravity and with much more interior space... Who will miss the ICE version?

Porsche, Ferrari, ... know this. I don't imagine they can abandon electrical development.

It's just a matter of time.

I wouldn't rule out that some information actually comes from Porsche.
Executives of large companies are like politicians, they send a message and also its opposite, waiting for reactions from shareholders, investors, competitors, customers... to take the pulse of the market.

Therefore, unless you are inside the company, things will not really be known until they happen.

this has no relevance whatsoever. i am switching from a macan turbo ice to a macan turbo ev. i could have bought a gts last year. but why? my 7 year old turbo is in perfect shape. i just wont to have fun with the ev! nobody is forcing me. i know the problems, i made 3 / 24 hour testdrives with the ev und i love the car.

Porsche is considering returning some of their models as ICE. Considering. That is perfectly normal readjustment of strategy and not even worth the big media fuzz it created.

It is possible a Q5 based Macan ICE returns but it will be not earlier than 2028. But it is not fully decided yet. I think Porsches bigger worry is the Cayman/Boxster.

What worries me the most is that Porsches sales overall are plummeting. They are selling less cars than before across both ICE and BEV. They seem to have really struggled to provide a clear strategy for both the clients and investors (see the stock price).

They aren't back pedalling but broadening their offering and for longer.

EV transition is in disarray for all manufacturers and as they're a business need to offer what the market dictates and not let the government dictate the market.
Agreed - but my point(perhaps selfishly) was more about the customers that buy EVs, not the manufacturers

Some classic cars will always have a future. Check out prices of some of the “most expensive Bugattis” for instance, and what they fetch in auctions.
I'm an EV guy, but see what is the first thing they mention about their beloved ICE car such as a 911, it's the grunt and the roar (apart from handling and sportiness, of course, which is available in a top Taycan too).

Q6 is the sibling of the Macan EV and I've always expected that given the demise of the ICE Macan it would ultimately be resurrected with the new body shape despite the PPE designation of the platform.

Too many lost sales otherwise.

This means that predominantly private buyers will elect to purchase the non EV version given the reaidual value situation plaguing EVs.

Q5 is the ICE equivalent of the electric-only Q6. If Porsche wants another gas Macan they could base it off the just released Q5 2025, which is actually what they are considering.
Porsche already confirmed that the electric Macan can not be turned into a gas car.

Q6 e-tron is the sibling of the Macan EV and have the same shared platform - 100%. If the Q5 fills the ICE slot then perfect - just lash the new Macan body on top and watch those sales climb - hybrid + gas.

PPE - indeed that’s what they said but they’re also now revisiting all of this and with $800m investment I’m pretty certain a chunk of this will help modify any existing platform - they have one or three to choose from across the group.

To me the platform debate is largely irrelevant to the average consumer and I can’t help but think this is just a show of one-up-manship that all manufacturers feel obliged to have a coded name for their “platform(s)”. Porsche will want to re-establish their 80K annual volume Macan sales by whatever means.

Some of us predicted this moment some months ago only to be shot down by the platform naysayers, it hasn’t happened quite yet but seems highly probable at this point.

If available this time next year then my wife will find it hard to resist over the Macan EV for a replacement to her much treasured Macan T.

I drove o 2015 Macan S for 10 years and have had my 4S for a couple of months.
It took me a couple of weeks to adjust to the new car. I think it handles very differently. You can feel the extra weight and the inch or two larger I can also sense.
i leased so not worried about resale value
now that I’ve adjusted to it I don’t think i
ld ever go back to ice. I am enjoying every drive.
In three years I will look at the market again.. A lot can change in three years.
But I don’t understand why people have such an emotional attachment to the choice of EV vs ice. Get whatever you want. Don’t worry about the future choices. The tech will change very quickly.
