Usually, just the Chinese cars are on the radar these days, when it comes to ethical purchasing, but we buy a lot of Chinese stuff, without realising.

The UK imports many goods from China, including electronics, machinery, textiles, and consumer goods. China is the UK's fifth-largest trading partner.
Total UK imports from China amounted to £57 billion in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2024
I am aware that we are being overwhelmed with Chinese products and European businesses have lost a huge market. China is an oppressive communist regime where human rights are not great. I would rather avoid such products when I can for ethical reasons. Typed on my Chinese made iPhone! šŸ˜‰

Personally wouldn’t do it. Went Taycan 4CT 2023 into Macan4 2025 and now going back to Taycan, but gen 1.2 4CT and more options.
To me the build quality of the Macan is just significantly cheaper feeling / experience wise than the Taycan was (see the threads)

also while it drives phenomenally for an SUV; it’s still not the same feeling as throwing the Taycan into corners / doing high speed runs

also since you come from Taycan4 CT- the Macan in low mode isn’t far higher than CT in lift mode. So getting in/ out isn’t a world of difference (on sedan yes it would be bigger diff)

Thinking of getting rid of very frustrating Taycan 4S Cross Turismo at 2 years old and possibly replacing with a new Macan 4S - what are the pros and cons?
Chalk and cheese IMHO.

Macan is not close to being a Taycan and I fear you'll suffer FOMO if you jump models.

If not too late take a 4S for a weekend loan as I did recently. I won't be buying a Macan EV at this time.

Easier ingress and egress is the only advantage but if you go for a new Taycan then option Porsche Active Ride (PAR) which will remedy that.

This was a 2023 replacement for a 2022 that was off the road regularly with probably all the known problems and recalls.
ok for a year or so apart from dealer failing to do a recall on time, no loan car so had to take another car.
rattle from rear for about a year - 3 visits - finally they have at least heard it.
November Alarm went off in middle of night - key /remote would not activate-
Recovery got it going cleared faults - one week later same again - tried to take to dealer but told to call recovery again who cleared multiple faults - car with dealer 2 weeks - no car for 4 weeks in total - eventually a loan BMW saloon - not EV and not an estate ( which I need) . Porsche offer Ā£250+vat ā€˜compensation’ - fed up!!
While i have not had issues like yours on the Macan you can read through the forum and note some nigglies that come up on the Macan. Nothing that I have seen would make me fed up but everyone has a different tolerance level. If you test drive and like it as much as most people on the forum then you might like it as well. The Macan does not feel like an SUV to me (especially with rear axle steering) but has the practicality of one. The S trim also has torque vector option which might appeal if you had that on your CT. That said I have only tested but not owned a Taycan so can only give a limited perspective.

Unless it was a deal to die for I won’t be having another Taycan - the Macan would be a compromise! Test drive next week and if I have to I will stick with what I’ve got for another year or two. Just fed up with not knowing if I can rely on it , boot rattles and 200 mile range in cold weather.

I’ve had 3 years of Taycan problems and whilst normally fairly tolerant I’m fed up. 10 years of RS Audis previously and zero issues! Wife’s S3’s since 2014 - faultless!
my question really is - are dot 2 Taycans and new Macan more reliable than the 22/23 Taycans.

Great question. Likely to early to know about dot 2 Taycan but given all the changes and the much improved range I would hope so.

Macan is a pretty cool allrounder / city cat - just picking up some dinner now, so nimble and no frills car. But it doesn’t have the vibe of Taycan at least for me

To my wife and me, no doubt the Taycan is a sexier looking car but its majorly-forward ā€œBā€ pillar (occluding the vertical part of the front seats when entering), compounded by the lower front outside of the dash sticking far rearward, lastly adding in the car’s low height, make entry except for lithe folks not a friendly day-top-day experience. In this major entry and exiting parameter, the Macan EV is light years better.

This became our personal dealbreaker for us, that while we still like the Taycan’s look and driving better, getting in and out of a Taycan even at CT in its full raised height,m especially in our non-expansive garage’s width, ended the Taycan versus Macan discussion for us. Watching savagegeese Turbo video was our positive clincher for our choosing the Macan.

Two minute best part of this video re is handling, power, and Porsche sportscar-likeness are 14:30-16:30:

Totally agree.
Apart from enjoying the usual Porsche driving dynamics, this was the second most important factor to my wife and me as well.
Perhaps we are at an age that this comfort has become necessary :)

Nah - I’m 70 next month and have no difficulty getting in and out of my 992 Turbo S or 1972 MG Midget - it’s not age it’s fitness šŸ˜‰
