Yes indeed. I just showed the electrician the 14-50 plug and off he went. I actually have two of these in my garage …long story but I have two EVs but I only charge one at a time although I suppose I could as they are on separate circuits.

That Leviton outlet is not designed for the service duty of EV charging. You can see the overheating (or possibly arcing) on one of the phases. most NEMA sockets are not designed for hte thermal load day-in/day-out for multi-hour sessions at a full 9.6 kW with no "downtime"

you want a Hubble industrical grade socket…

the plug in the picture already shows signs of thermal stress and overtime may lead to thermal stress induced failure…

as NOTED/Required by Porsche - it will handle the load no sweat…

That was my first one. I can check into it but never had an issue since 2018 in use. The new one for my Porsche is a different brand

who's EVSE were you using in 2018 - Porsche's EVSE's have a high nominal operating temperature (higher than other EVSE brands I've used) and therefore are more stressful on NEMA sockets…

with the Porsche EVSE you really want the best NEMA sockets possible given it's normal operating behavior.

Got it to charge my 2018 Nissan Leaf and now use it for my Volvo XC40 with no issues

How do you all feel about battery safety...(might be a different thread but....)?
I'm keeping mine outside all of the time, not just when charging. The chance of the battery melting down is pretty low, but not zero and if it does, I don't want to lose my house. I'm keeping my 3 other cars inside...my mini-collection ('07 997S manual, '06 Cayenne manual and my 1990 VW Vanagon. The Macan is my entry into modern times. Love it so far!

Correct I only charged at 38 amps as far as I recall. It had a small battery but charged up over night which was fine

Hum...ok so now you have me thinking a bit on this. I thought that all industrial NEMA 14-50R were built to meet the same standard but this looks like that may not be the case. Although I have had no issues that does not mean I might not have them. Thanks I put a call into my electrician if need be I will swap it out.

Note that the one shown is not used for my Porsche but the brand new one is not marked with a manufacture ID so that is what I will look into.

your gas cars are far more likely to go up in flames

Newbie question. Since this is my first EV, I'm pretty clueless on using the charging networks. My impression so far is the public charging network is total mess and figuring out how to use it with my car is near impossible. Had the car for all of 4 days and have tested a number of chargers...mostly with poor luck. I took a 150 mi. trip down the coast and ended up going to nearest Porsche dealer and get a fast charge there...that worked great of course!

Questions:
1. We are supposed to get 1 year of free charging. When I arrive at a charger, how do I log into it without a credit card and then not get billed?
2. I have the Porsche app and the Chargepoint app. Both don't have any functions related to this that I can find. Am I missing something?
3. Is there something I have to setup in the car's system??

you may have to reset your app on the car if Plug & Charge is grey out on the app.., once you can activate plug and charge you need to request a certificate on the app.. then when you pull into a EA charging station and plug in the car does the rest… this took me two months to solve … hopefully you can shorten my experience.

I have an older Tesla charger at home. If I buy the new Universal Wall Charger can I just install it myself in place of the older one since the new one appears to be wired? I’m very handy and it doesn’t appear too complicated to require an electrician. The old charger is on a dedicated circuit with a 50Amp breaker.

old one hard wired or plug based?

but you don't need a new one - you can just buy a TeslaTap adapter…and the old Tesla charger will work just fine.

It would work with an adapter. However, I was thinking of replacing it since the current Tesla charger is a 32Amp only.
