The original topic was ‘assistance systems causing dangerous situations’, which I’d say my car going from 70mph to 5mph on a busy dual carriage way definitely constitutes.

I’d be really interested to hear if Porsche manage to improve the situation on your car regarding it, and I do hope they can fix your car, it it would give hope to many of us who are very frustrated that these systems just aren’t up to the job, and dangerously so.

Interestingly, the problem you are having is the same or similar to the phantom braking issue with Teslas, except that phantom braking in a Tesla happens randomly and even when the max cruise speed has been set manually. The braking is often sudden and hard, and has caused serious accidents. I'm curious, does your car apply the brakes hard, like phantom braking in a Tesla, when slowing for a wrongly recognised speed limit?

When you press the mode button on the end of the cruise control stalk, you get to turn on or off which of the three features you want via the central display (speed limit, route topography, lane keeping). I tend to keep speed limit adjustment off as it is regularly incorrect in what it think the limit is. I find the lane keeping works pretty well, unless it is dark and the car is dirty, where I disable it for that drive and use it as a regular adaptive cruise
I am in the same camp as you with turning off the speed limit warning with the diamond button and the lane departure with the button on the bottom of the stalk at the start of every drive

OK so I have an interesting update for those who follow this.

My car was at the dealers to fix the suspension issue and turned out there is a recall / service campaign for my VIN - software update and "sensor calibration". I've noticed much improvement after this, no false positives during parking where I've had them all the time and I think the LKA is much less sensitive / jumpy then before.

Full set of Christmas lights went up on my dash. Guess I’ve joined the club on these sensor issues.. happened on a Sunday after a short stop at a store. Got back in and all the lights and warning started up. First time. Haven’t checked back after getting home and shutting down the car.

You have options in the assistance menu for setting the sensitivy of many of these functions. I found my Macan EV to be way more sensitive then my 911 so I went hunting for setup options.

Assistance/Gear icon far right/Assistance system Settings. Choose your preference: Low, Normal and High. I set many of mine to low or late and the driving experience is much improved.

wow, this just happened to me...about 60 mph, on the highway, in the rain.......Nothing in front on of me, and luckily, no one close behind me. The car just slammed on the brakes for an instant for a "immanent collision"...
If there are failures of the radar/cameras... they need to fail safely...off.
that shit was scary.
The breaks hit so hard n fast, it seems like you've hit something with the car...
I've always knocked on wood that I haven't had issues with the car like some others on here...but man...I'm gonna schedule the service for the camera recall/software..and be sure to tell them about this as well.

This also happened to me for about 1/4s at a freeway exit whilst using Active Lane Keep in the slow lane. We were not exiting.

Light traffic, no-one driving badly at that time.

I can imagine the system got confused and thought we were driving between the main road and the exit lane.

Only once so far, but I’ll add it to my list for the dealer to note

Since 2020 I've driven a few cars routinely with collision warning and then with automatic braking actions. Mostly Mercedes based.

Originally they used only radar sensors and liked to warn me when a tree was about to jump out in front of me. Cameras were added to reduce false alarms.

False alarms still still happen under difficult conditions, like rain. They were just annoying untill automatic braking came along. These systems are programmed to err on the side of braking. It is a calculated risk, Anyone know how much damage or injuries have been avoided vs how much was caused by false alarms.

Every manufacture and safety shops take false alarms seriously as they do not want drivers to disable the feature.

i had the avoidance assistance turned off...but apparently it turns back on by itself...
i had it brake for me another time...but i understood why. I still didn't like it...cuz it coulda caused someone to run in the back of me

That has not been my experience. Macan is the only car I've had that honestly scared me shitless a couple of times and undermined my confidence. I'm glad the update I had applied to sensors improved it a lot and I've not had a warning like that since.
