I have my turbo with 21 inch wheels coming in any day now! If I am not happy with the tires what would be the best ones to swap for? Most interested in ride comfort for my wife but would also factor in noise and performance.

See my thread: tire lottery

My Macan 4 was delivered last week. It turned out to be standing on 21” Bridgestones. Clearly not my preference, because I always drove with Michelins on my BMW’s and also on my Taycan and previous Macan. In another thread I already wrote that the dealer wanted to change tires, but that would cost € 2,400. Moreover, I could nót return the (new) Bridgestones.

In my opinion this does not suit Porsche. You can tick everything, but you are at the mercy of Porsche when it comes to tire choice. While tires are crucial for driving pleasure. A lottery or roulette, which one you get. The choices are Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Michelin or Pirelli. All with the indication N, but far from the same quality.

The tyre labels on the configurator is mandatory so Porsche has to show these differences. I looked them up and saw them confirmed by several tire tests for SUV summer tyres.

The table shows consecutively for 21” rims 255/45 - 295/40: front dry - rear dry | front wet - rear wet | dB front - dB rear
BridgestoneCBCB7173
ContinentalBACB7375
GoodyearBABA7072
MichelinBBBB7472
PirelliCBCB7172

Conclusion: Goodyear is the best choice. Bridgestone and Pirelli are the worst.

I can confirm that my Bridgestones are stiffer than I was used to from the Michelins. Tests show that the Bridgestones have a higher rolling resistance. I think this is the cause of it. Perhaps I have no other choice than to change them for Goodyears. The lottery turned out wrong for me…

My Macan 4 cam with Pirellis. Truly terrible tires - harsh and loud. Going to swap them out next week for Michelins .

Could help share if you got the PZ4s or the Scorpions (and the size of the rims you have)?

I just was notified that my vehicle is in transit and found out that i'm getting the Pirellis as well... 😅

We live in Honolulu with terrible roads, so I opted for the stock 20“ rims. It came with the Scorprions. I test drove the Turbo and a different Macan 4 with the 21” rim/tire package and they were both much smoother. Totally counter intuitive that the 20” would be rougher.

Macan Turbo on Bridgestone Potenza Sport after a mere 2500 miles down to 3mm tread.
How did that happen ?
The tyre’s performance was not amazing either as can be vague after warming up and pushing speeds.

thinking of Goodyear F1 Neo Sport as my experience with Good year and Pirelli gar superior.

any suggestions please

Hi,

I have the 21" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my Macan 4 and I am really happy with them. They are generally very quiet (except for some specific road types that are noisy with any tire), and incredibly smooth. I have always been a Michelin fan though (for comfort/longevity, not necessarily for performance).

I am very unhappy with my Bridgestones - noisy and feel overly hard. As the winters here in the UK are generally mild looking at Cross Climates - would appreciate if anyone has fitted all seasons and how they find them.

Mine came with the al season Pirelli Scorpion MS tires. They are smooth and quiet. Stick well in 20-40 F weather as well as 90. Wear at 3000 miles is not noticeable. I’ve had several Michelin tires over the years, these are quieter. The Pirelli MS are an expensive tire, however.

Many thanks for taking the time. I’ll look to see if they are available in the UK

For those with 22’’s, mine came with Michelin PS4 A/S. IMO, I won the lottery. They are so fantastic cutting curvy cornering roads when I am spiritedly driving, and yet also really nice for daily stuff too. As to how well they will wear, too early for me to tell .

I also have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 AS on 22" wheels and have been very happy with them the 2 weeks I've had them so far. Very pleasantly surprised at the quietness and comfort, since I was originally worried about the 22" wheels. Turn in, handling and grip also feel good daily driving in the sunny weather we've been having. I haven't taken the car to a canyon road or anything like that yet.

For reference, I have Michelin PS4S's on 2 other cars and Michelin Defenders on an SUV. So far, the PS4 AS's have been quieter and more comfortable than both of those and they handle a lot better than the Defenders

Thanks for your findings. Unfortunately it looks like Michelin haven’t released the tyres here in the UK yet - just summer Pilot Sports

I hope that by the time I need tires/tyres there will be more options with foam liners to help reduce road noise. On smooth surfaces the Pilot Sports are pretty quiet but some of the roads I drive have rough patches from construction or poor maintenance, and the noise is significant.
