Many dealers use a credit card hold for deposits. Most dealers refund the deposit if you cancel anyway, maintains good will within the community, and it makes the paperwork and accounting easier. If it is something very unique and they don't think they can resale they will surely cash in the deposit. I don't see a lot of Macans in inventory around here. Maybe 8 at the local shop, of which at least one is already sold. Its pretty hard moving the manufacturing inertia much.

My dealer required me to fill out a credit application and provide a credit card for a deposit when I ordered my car, but they never charged the deposit. I tried to get them to do it several times but they never did, and that's one of the reasons I was so nervous about the markup. I fully expected to get hit with the $10K one SA mentioned (or even more) when doing the final paperwork at pickup.

I was surprised when I looked at the numbers and saw I was charged MSRP.
oooh that's very interesting. yeah, that's not normal. Mine charged my card for the deposit immediately...
but 10k over MSRP is crazy. No one here paid (AFAIK) paid anything over MSRP. That woulda been grounds to take your business elsewhere...

Given what the new leader of Germany called our current President, I would think a tariff will be forthcoming. Mecans are not selling well and "incentives" are sure to come. And no wonder they are not selling...$7500 Kia Customer Cash is being offered making the price less than have of a Mecan. So there's that.

My dealer, Porsche of Carlsbad (in SoCal), did not take any deposit when placing my order. Really surprised me actually. Deposits are required by law in CA to be fully refundable but it's definitely more relaxing not needing to place one. They also did not run a credit check (I know because it was frozen) but I was driving a GV60. Maybe it would have been different if I were in a cheap car.

Any chance they didnā€™t do the credit as they think the cost of the car will increase due to tariffs and didnā€™t take a deposit as theyā€™re expecting you to decline the new price ?

Hello everyone

We are in the US, and special ordered and took delivery of a Papaya 4S in late December. It is my husband's car, and since he's had it I really, really lied it. So much so I planned to wait until July / August for the model year change on the configurator, and to order one for me.

But last week, the president announced tariffs on all cars imported to the US of 25%, effective 4/2. I don't want this to be a political thread- there are plenty of those.

But for porsche guys in the US, what to do now? Maybe it won't happen, or maybe it'll be delayed. But I decided not to risk it and scoured inventory withing 500 miles of our house to find a 2025 S. Turns out I found a car pretty close to what I wanted in the closest dealershp to us (Porsche Newport Beach). It's below.
Anyway- for what it's worth.

We bought a very similar model and we get many positive comments on the color . Ours has the rear steering... and the turning radius is great! I will always select that option in the future.

my theory for why dealers don't take charge deposit is because they don't want to pay the credit card processing fee , they'd rather add that amount onto the check that you write them

my dealership got really shifty with me about this. they made it seem like they were so gracious for not charging a deposit, and i was like "no, i want you to swipe the credit card" and they were like "nah"

so i think they're only gonna charge a deposit if your build is something crazy (like paint-to-sample, or tons of options) to know you're serious

Hello All,
New to this forum/thread. I'm looking to get out of my 6 year experience with Tesla 3 LR. Really want to get behind the wheel of Macan E 4 as I enjoyed my test driving experience. I want to know if its worth waiting now til Porche converts to NACS (and hopefully when tariffs are lower/renegotiated) as my dealer doesn't have an exact answer to this question.

I wouldnā€™t wait for NACS, but maybe if you intend to keep it for many years it is worthwhile.

My thinking is that will be in adapter hell for quite awhile. Networks and vehicle makers have been much slower to convert than they said. I donā€™t want to be limited to just the supercharger network, either, so either you have NACS and carry a CCS adapter or you have CCS and carry an NACS adapter. Thatā€™s just how itā€™s going to be for probably the next 5+ years.

I donā€™t think makers want to put NACS on the car until the networks are ready for it. Otherwise they are totally dependent on Tesla and their SC network. The networks largely donā€™t have it yet. Will take time to break the deadlock.

Interesting... in CA I had a $2k deposit on my credit card. When I picked up the car, the F/I rep said I could put up to 10k total on my credit card "in case you are going after points or miles." Works for me!

Damn thatā€™s nice. I guess itā€™s dealer specific. Mine was definitely trying to play games with me šŸ˜

I do like to keep and drive my cars around for usually >5 years
Reading mixed reviews about adapters and use of Electrify America.
It's nice having the convenience of Tesla Level 2 at home and access to the SC network but concerned taking the adapter on and off between two electric cars.

This is all pretty obvious. Unpredictable policy and limited information makes decisions in the current environment difficult. Who knows what will happen with tariffs, trade wars, the economy, NACS, etc. If you need a vehicle now, it probably makes sense to find a landed pre-tariff vehicle quickly. If you can wait, things will become more clear in the future. I was initially worried about missing NACS, but discovered it really does not matter for my use case of home charging and travel in Nevada and California.
