Many dealers use a credit card hold for deposits. Most dealers refund the deposit if you cancel anyway, maintains good will within the community, and it makes the paperwork and accounting easier. If it is something very unique and they don't think they can resale they will surely cash in the deposit. I don't see a lot of Macans in inventory around here. Maybe 8 at the local shop, of which at least one is already sold. Its pretty hard moving the manufacturing inertia much.

My dealer required me to fill out a credit application and provide a credit card for a deposit when I ordered my car, but they never charged the deposit. I tried to get them to do it several times but they never did, and that's one of the reasons I was so nervous about the markup. I fully expected to get hit with the $10K one SA mentioned (or even more) when doing the final paperwork at pickup.

I was surprised when I looked at the numbers and saw I was charged MSRP.
oooh that's very interesting. yeah, that's not normal. Mine charged my card for the deposit immediately...
but 10k over MSRP is crazy. No one here paid (AFAIK) paid anything over MSRP. That woulda been grounds to take your business elsewhere...

Given what the new leader of Germany called our current President, I would think a tariff will be forthcoming. Mecans are not selling well and "incentives" are sure to come. And no wonder they are not selling...$7500 Kia Customer Cash is being offered making the price less than have of a Mecan. So there's that.

My dealer, Porsche of Carlsbad (in SoCal), did not take any deposit when placing my order. Really surprised me actually. Deposits are required by law in CA to be fully refundable but it's definitely more relaxing not needing to place one. They also did not run a credit check (I know because it was frozen) but I was driving a GV60. Maybe it would have been different if I were in a cheap car.

Any chance they didn’t do the credit as they think the cost of the car will increase due to tariffs and didn’t take a deposit as they’re expecting you to decline the new price ?
