Hello everyone

We are in the US, and special ordered and took delivery of a Papaya 4S in late December. It is my husband's car, and since he's had it I really, really lied it. So much so I planned to wait until July / August for the model year change on the configurator, and to order one for me.

But last week, the president announced tariffs on all cars imported to the US of 25%, effective 4/2. I don't want this to be a political thread- there are plenty of those.

But for porsche guys in the US, what to do now? Maybe it won't happen, or maybe it'll be delayed. But I decided not to risk it and scoured inventory withing 500 miles of our house to find a 2025 S. Turns out I found a car pretty close to what I wanted in the closest dealershp to us (Porsche Newport Beach). It's below.
Anyway- for what it's worth.

So, am i understanding this correctly. In December, you decided to wait till mid 2025 to order a 2025 S, or a 2026?

Nice package! I did the same thing...and this was back in November and there only rumors of the tariff. Planned to order but found mine pretty close to what I wanted so decided not to risk the price increase. The 4 was plenty fast so I don't miss the S...but maybe next time! So if dealer will give you some discount, I'd pull trigger on this one. I found mine at Irvine Porsche BTW. Good luck!

My dealer ships them anywhere. They are piling up on the lot. Go get them.

I would not wait….i personally feel like there is a greater than 50% chance of an auto tariff with Germany, especially now that the far right party did not win the German election. There is no way I would have made my 4S purchase with the additional tariff cost passed on to me.

Having spent a week going through available inventory using "find my Porsche"- I found

1. I would have no trouble finding AN "S".

2. with the hundreds of options on the car there are thousands of possible combinations

3. some of those are down right ugly (to my eye), some have $20k in options for interior and exterior accents and wheels, some are obvious "lot cars" with a common color with a package or 2.

4. if you find a car with a "build sheet"- the dealer doesn't have it. It's "coming soon". There are lots of those. If it has a window sticker- the dealer usually has it.

For example, I even found a turbo in stock! 2024 MY (new), with silver roof rails and window trim, and turbomite blades and interior trim. OK well I'll pass. Best discount I'd found. But I couldn't live with it.

I'd just say if you are in the US and you want one, and you'd rather not settle for a grossly optioned one, or just any one, and you don't want to risk a 25% price hike, start looking.

I think a lot of ppl are missing this... using the dealer inventory as evidence that the cars aren't selling, and the dealers have sooo many...
But the dealers will gladly list cars they don't even have yet.

Beautiful! I love that this car is a bit smaller than Macan 4. I have the same wheels. Sharp!

I know for a fact that my dealer listed my special order in their inventory online. Basically anything that doesn't seem to have a real picture from their lot attached to it online is most likely a special order that can't be purchased.

I was concerned that my special order would also appear in my dealer’s online inventory, so I kept an eye on it. I’m happy to report that didn’t happen, though I am sure it would have been listed the day that I was picking up the car if we hadn’t closed the deal.

My dealer has over 50 Macan models in the inventory, about half of them still in transit but available for purchase. However, not one of them is a Turbo.

I was also worried about how much of a markup I would be asked to pay when the car actually arrived (one of the SAs had told me the price would be $10K over build sheet), but the SA who actually took my order charged me the price from the configurator. Considering the scarcity of Turbos I was very happy with that.

Dealers want showroom traffic. So they usually list everything that is coming in and add an in-transit note. When a customer expresses interest in your special order they try to sell them something else. I don't now of a dealer that will sell a car you put a deposit down on. They like to protect themselves if you cancel at the last minute and they lose a sale, however. Its like a wait list with you having first dibs. Nothing unethical about it, just a way to get more showroom traffic.

I've special ordered several cars, and I notice dealers will often order something very similar for their inventory, thinking perhaps it may have broader appeal and sell.

I still see my car in the dealer's inventory, a week after delivery.. :)

Do you think Porsche have increased the cars into the US that haven’t got a confirmed buyer, in order to get them in before any tariffs are levied - hence the dealers having a lot of cars in transit. Incurring a bit of finance on cars ‘on the lot’ would be a lot cheaper than 25% tariffs.

My dealer required me to fill out a credit application and provide a credit card for a deposit when I ordered my car, but they never charged the deposit. I tried to get them to do it several times but they never did, and that's one of the reasons I was so nervous about the markup. I fully expected to get hit with the $10K one SA mentioned (or even more) when doing the final paperwork at pickup.

I was surprised when I looked at the numbers and saw I was charged MSRP.
