Is anyone else feeling frustrated that the speed is not accurate? My car registers speed inaccurately at 1-2 miles higher than actual at speeds from 15-30 mph.

At higher speeds it gets even more inaccurate. From 50-65 it’s three miles off and above that it’s four to five miles off. It’s stating a speed of 75 when GPS shows 71.

I feel this is annoying and unacceptable. Is there any possibility that this could be corrected?

Not frustrated about it and no it can’t be changed.
There are others thread that cover this topic and explain why that is.

You’re welcome.

This is "normal" for the German cars I have owned over three decades. There are couple of different standards in play in the US vs. Europe, but the most relevant standard for the Macan EV is UN ECE Regulation 39, which effectively requires that the actual speed never be faster that the speedometer gauge reading. This means the speedometer always over-reports your speed, sometimes by a very wide margin.

You can recalibrate the speedometer of most vehicles, so I assume it would be possible on the Macan EV. Or, you could install larger circumference tires but that is made more difficult by the staggered tire size setup.

Edit: apparently others are stating that recalibrating may not be possible???

It is certainly annoying...I have just learned to adjust. What I find more frustrating is driving the Macan daily and then getting into my wife's Denali or our Z06 and recalibrating my brain so I don't end up doing 3-4 mph over indicated, both of which read true to speed.

As for many other “new” threads, the search function is still unknown to many…

Is there any chance the odometer overstates miles driven if the speedometer shows a greater than actual speed?

More than a chance, it is almost a certainty that distance traveled is also over-reported. The speedometer and odometer are historically driven by the same data. I guess there is a chance that they use GPS in these newest vehicles, but that seems unlikely.

I find that hard to believe as it would amount to fraud on the part of the odometer. I'll check this next drive as I have a 100 mile trip tomorrow

I believe the HVAC also over reports the temperature, like, if you set the temperature to 70F, it's actually only 68F. I strongly feel like Porsche is lying just about every number displayed... mmmm, I will have to check the clock too, see if it changes the minute after 58 seconds only.

Tinfoil much? 😅

Speed recorded at the wheel will always fluctuate a bit, depending on tire wear, pressure, and other factors. So it may feel more true depending on the exact conditions. GPS speed is more accurate, but it's not instantaneous, and I hope you won't need the info in a tunnel.

It's not fraud, just allowable tolerances in measurements. I believe the allowable variation is up to 10% in Germany, and regulations forbid underreporting speed, so the decision is dictated by these constraints.

I'm talking about the odometer just to be clear.

I don't believe anything changed at the federal level since (such as a law stating the required accuracy / tolerance), but the prior lawsuit that basically set the US standard for odometer accuracy is mentioned here. The Wayback machine links at the bottom take you to a scanned document about the lawsuit and the old federal regulation.
