With Battery / Loading information selected on Tube A on the instrument cluster, what are the indications on the periphery. There’s a bar on the right hand side next to the battery temperature with blue at 6 o’clock position and red at 12 o’clock? It does seem to vary but can’t work out yet what with..:

Does any one know what this means? The manual is sparse on instrument cluster detail imo

I assumed it was showing where the battery temperature sits relative to the extremes of too cold and too hot but may be wrong. In your case, the 77 degrees F is midway …

It’s the battery temperature and the preferred battery temperature for charging I believe. If you watch the outofspec videos they talk about how if you preset a charging destination in the navigation the battery will warm up to ideal temp on arrival.

in the photo, blue is cold and red is hot and the middle box area is the preferred battery temperature

The bracket shows the optimum temperature for charging. If the end of the bar falls within the bracket, you should get the fastest charging. You can see that the bar is at the bottom end of the bracket, so it's just about there.

The indication on the right in your picture of 77F is your current battery temperature with red/blue showing limits of low/high relative battery temperature and a narrow bracket [appears to be variable] to the right indicating ideal battery temp for accepting max charge speed. The importance of that indicator is to see if the battery is pre-heating when a charging station is selected in the navigation and getting it into that bracket range.

The example of ideal conditions to receive maximum charging speed is shown on the site as following, which is different from my previous understanding of ideal battery temperature being between 86F to 95F.

The other point to note, that Macan did not receive the additional feature now available on new Taycans of indicating the "maximum charging power prediction" possible before arriving at the charger with that estimate shown on the left in the Taycan as seen below. Please correct me if I am wrong, since I do not own one, but driven a few that did not have that available, at least as of yet.

That’s very helpful, thank you for the extra detail - the taycan feature looks useful, maybe we’ll see it rolled out to us in the way of an update

That small range of temperature is the ideal one for starting a new charging session (although I've seen videos where 77F was not getting the best rate, so it's on the low side of 'ideal').

What will happen is, if you show up to a charger at 10%, and in the ideal starting temperature range, the car will charge at up to 270-280 for as long as it doesn't hit the red (about 130F) or the software reduces the power required using the charging curve. If you showed up to the charger at 120F for instance, you'd hit the red much sooner and your charge rate would drop to manage the temperature to not go higher.

The best case is that you'll be software limited to the 'programmed' charging curve, not temperature limited.

If you know what to look for, Out of Spec Dave's recent Macan videos show some of these behaviors, both at the low temperature end, and at the top too. It was good to see his car cooling down from max to the ideal between chargers, although it was cold weather, which helps. Might be harder in Arizona in August.
