Life is about alternating experiences IMO, so you don’t get bored or complacent. If you’re coming from high performance cars that possibly lacked a little luxury, then treat yourself to a fully spec’d 4S because it’s something you haven’t had for a while. If you’re coming from mid-pace cars that likely had nice interiors (and you really get a kick from putting your foot to the floor) then go for the Turbo. That latter part is the most important - the 4S is plenty fast for 95% of daily driving…but…if going insanely fast puts a massive smile on your face then there are few cars that will do that like the Turbo!!

This is the age old question... Spend virtually the same money on a 'base' top of the line model vs. a loaded 'lower' trim.

While saving less than a second to 60 might be enticing to some, having the full spec of the 4S, with rear wheel steering, club leather interior, HUD, etc. was much more attractive to me. Plus...my 4S configuration was approximately USD $15K less than the turbo.

Just my opinion...

Right but that’s not the same context.
That’s also what I said, the 4S is plenty fast and makes even more sense if cheaper.

In OP’s case, there is no price difference - heck, the 4S even ends up being more expensive than the Turbo.

Think he should be getting the 4S in the situation outlined above?

While I always save and wait until I can get my next vehicle with every option I wish — and will definitely be getting a Turbo , I very much like the two sentence post of PrudentOcean ( # 3) when he wrote…

“ You'll enjoy the features of the 4S every time you drive it, whereas you'd feel the difference between the 4S and the Turbo only when you hammer it. How often would that be?

So, clearly the Turbo can be used for pulling stumps out of the ground. The question you need to ask yourself is, "How often am I really going to be pulling stumps out of the ground?"
My turbo is just a blast on on ramps and from stop lights when I’m in the mood to punch it. Never had more fun in a car!
Exactly that! As heavy as these things are off the line, ramps, and launches are where Turbo shines...and pulling stumps out of the ground for sure. I drove a RWD, 4, and 4S and did not find lack of power in any of them for daily driving routine.

I fully agree. The Turbo is obviously very impressive, but all that extra power versus the 4S seems hardly “of any legal use”. 🤔

I have a fully loaded Turbo and I love the extra options but I also love the extra power and things that only come with the turbo. If you don’t have the extra power then I think you will only miss it in your “head” unless you are a “track bunny”. Depends on how long you aim to keep the car and how important it is to have “top of the range”. Buy with your head for a slow resale then 4S - buy with your heart for a quick resale then the Turbo.
I speced the 4S and the Turbo but was surprised that with the Turbo so many of the extras I wanted came in cheaper, so I bite the bullet hard and had all the extras I wanted on the Turbo but to justify it all I aim to keep the car a long time and am already pushing Porsche for a price to exchange all the battery modules in 10 yrs!

I believe it's not the same price, 'like for like'. A 'skinny' turbo would be missing options that for many (not all) will make a significant difference: Rear steering, HUD, Premium Package, etc.

But to each his / her own....

Question isn’t like for like though. :)
OP shared 2 configs, the Turbo is cheaper than the 4S.

If there aren’t savings like in your case, it changes the context quite a bit.

It's always a personal choice .. but when I first looked at getting a Macan EV, I didn't have the choice of the 4S .. when I started the ordering process, they announced it. I quickly switched and have never looked back nor regretted it. I have a friend who got the Turbo and loves it but would have been very happy to get a 4S if they were available at the time... In fact they tried to change the order but couldn't. Clearly, if you want to race, get the Turbo. If you just want a fun car that has fantastic acceleration and handling but isn't a supercar, get the 4S. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for a Turbo nor a 4. If I were really going 'cheaper' .. I'd just get the rear drive one which still has good get up an go and is the range king. When was the last time you went 162 MPH or cared if you lost almost a second in the quarter mile? Either way, enjoy it!

I'm not a racer, but I do like driving hard when conditions allow me to do so safely. So, I think this post tracks my reasoning pretty closely. But while I wait, it's impossible not to think about what could have been. . . That turbo's power is just, wow!

Turbo, because you’ll have less remorse when a GTS comes out.
lol, that was pretty much my logic, but never cared to admit.

but then you'll still have remorse when the Turbo S or Turbo GT comes out :)

Porsche already said they are not planning any more variants including GTS for Macan EV.

Wow, this is news to me, sad if really true. Learned a few things from my 4S build and although no dealbreakers and am happy for its use case, was hoping to get a GTS next time around, but may have to go turbo.
