On the macan ev the driver's display can be configured but it's very limited in ways that don't seem to make sense to me. They're trying to mimic the scope/tube model from the mechanical displays.

Here's one example: I'd like to be able to see the discharge/charge display (not sure what they actually call it) but it's only configurable in the center "tube" which is ludicrous since it then replaces the map which is arguably most important. In the attached image, the display in the center cannot (as far as I know) but shown on the left or the right tube. What possible reason could there be for that limitation?

Perhaps I'm wrong and there's a way to do it but Porsche was unable to tell me how to do it.

Set the HUD to show charge/discharge around the speed. The navigation goes on the right of that, and the map fills the lower display.
If you didn't get the HUD, not sure there's much you can do :-(

If no HUD, add the Charging tile to My Home Screen (one of 3 tiles that you can add) might give you what you are after.

The scope is limited per tube so check the Owner's manual for what each tube can display.

Configurability is limited to Porsche heritage.
So you will see analog Speedo on the left and Tach would be center, etc. on ICE cars.

I would recommend using Battery info on the left, Speedo Center with Power meter center, then vitals on the right with 12v battery key, that is most useful to me. As far as map, you can do map in the center between left and right tubes and still see the Speedo.

It’s almost impossible to please everyone. However, doing thorough research and test-driving each vehicle you’re considering can help you decide which one to buy—and which compromises you’re willing to accept. And don’t forget to read the owner’s manual.

2026: Buy an expensive without a proper test drive.

Don’t read the manual after receiving the car.

Complain on a forum about stuff you could’ve figured out before making the decision to buy or by RTFM.

Excuse my bad behavior, but I just can’t understand this mindset.

There's a lot of good stuff here, but sometimes people can be unnecessarily angry about things. I have a few people blocked here, which helps, but I know of members providing good help in the past who no longer come here due to poor interactions with those people.

Yes, it's in the hud which I use sometimes.

As to the "can please everyone", that's a silly argument. A two hour coding session can add that "thing" to the left or right "tube". Nobody is hurt by it. Some people will like it.

Yes, I should have realized that even Porsche can make really stupid decisions that benefit nobody.

I had it on for the first few weeks and found it pretty useless after getting used to the car in different conditions. I only put it on now if I'm doing something new or on terrain that I've not experienced before. I find the similar meter to be either distracting or pretty intuitive in the HUD. I do agree with you that the map in the center is crucial. The map display also gives me the speed and tells me if I'm in Innodrive so I put the SOC/charging display on the left tube. I find that a lot more useful in telling me how quickly I am depleting the battery on a long trip. I use carplay for music or audiobooks so the right tube usually has the display that gives me mileage, miles/Kwh on the current trip. The driver display is not that flexible although more flexible than some other EV's I've seen like my son's Kia EV6. In many EV's, it doesn't exist or is small and hard to read. This is my 4th Porsche so I've gotten used to their 'quirks' .. This one is a lot more 'flexible' than my previous Macan and there's no comparison in overall experience.

w.r.t. "so I put the SOC/charging display on the left tube" I'm curious what you're referring to since I thought that was my original complaint (couldn't display that on the left/right). But since most of these widgets don't have clear (to me) names maybe you're referring to something else. If you felt like sending a picture that would be great.

Please see left tube, that is the most useful display of all and here is why, well this is a 2026 GTS so it has an extra goodie to the left that shows the max speed the battery can accept (given SoC and Battery Temp), but on the right you have battery temp and that bracket that shows you optimal battery temp for max charging with top red (too hot) and bottom blue (too cold) markers. Also, there is a yellow line on the battery picture itself that shows your charging level target, on this one it looks like 100%.

OMG, you got your feelings hurt by a post to someone else? Boohoo.

“Shouting”….

Will stick to European forums from now on. Here we at least know how to read the manual.

Bye.

Yes, we’re happy. That’s why we’re not constantly crying about hurt feelings when discussing facts.

Get over it. You need to do better.
