One year to have useful fixes on an android based PCM is a shame tbh:
- second screen with apps is useless until you can’t select the sound you want on the speakers. We pay for that, and we can’t use it.
- pause is pause, not mute
- you can’t sitch off the backside Clim for “ever”: if you switch off it (but keep the front one on), at the next trip, it will be enabled again
- clean mode for Car washing
- enable both nav systems at the same time, carplay&incar nav
- improve light & details on this disastrous 360 view, or maybe add the ability to zoom. Do something Porsche.
- …

Not big problems, but, in the meantime, from a consumer POV, it’s so stupid. I prefer 6 updates per year, instead of 1 per week, for sure, but 1 in 18 months …

the whole "new software version" is a myth. the software of the PCM has been updated numerous times OTA and every service stop. (see your version history). there always complaints with every software (see Windows) i have complaints wits my apple OS. the problem is that there might be a lot of people that wish for complete other functions.
but the inability to connect earphones to the passenger screen renders it useless indeed.

i think my biggest ask would be to have a rear climate control "off" button on the center console... or like you said, it stay off until i turn it back on.
the craziest thing is that the rear climate blower is actually the loud one!

I took my Macan for a winter tire change and the dealer asked if they could keep the car longer because a major software update is now available and being installed.

They asked that I not share all the details, but the software update apparently is quite large and may take a few days. It includes updates for the vehicle electrical systems, battery, charging, navigation functions, and HVAC.

Hope it helps take the gremlins I’ve been experiencing out of the vehicle systems!

So most modern manufacturers are able to update the car in your own garage “over the air” in 10minutes. And Porsche requires the car to be at the dealer “for several days”. That is just mind boggling.

I’m not complaining about a myth nor a unicorn!

Obviously, these features have not been fixed, no matter the numerous supposed OTAs…
I’ll check the version history, but to my knowledge, the core android kernel is almost 1 year old. Can’t imagine the numerous security issues in such an old kernel…

I didn’t buy the Macan for the infotainment system, but I expect it to deliver a good experience, especially with features I’ve optioned with the help of too much euros.
140ke…

Agreed. It’s the best driving SUV I've owned (better than my previous Macan GTS). Solidly built. Quiet. Nimble on corners. The tech issues were to be expected.and hopefully they're slowly resolved.

As Steven noted, Porsche uses outside contractors to develop in-car sub-system software. I know this was true a few years ago on the Cayman/Boxster as I was working with one of them in Germany. There are a number of separate, smaller firmware controlled sub-systems and each has its own development cycle/history/management. Just getting the requirements locked down for the number of independent systems is chore....doing a major update release can be real challenge when the development teams are different companies with their own processes. Yea, I would like to do an update OTA but I can see how it's a major challenge. Currently it's "just good enough" so I'm ok as the features and GUI work pretty darn well.

No one, but my point was not that Porsche is modern. I am still very happy with the car though.

and which manufacturers might this be?
BMW, Tesla, Polestar, Hyundai, BYD, Rivian, Lucid, Mercedes can and all do very frequent updates. And there are way more.

That list is a bit optimistic. Most of them have done one or two OTA, ever, and you’ll find many people on those forums who ended up going into the dealer to get an update.

Should also differentiate between system updates and app/map updates. Maybe there is a better track record with pushing individual apps.

I frequent the iX forums and most have gotten zero or one OTA iDrive updates. I have gotten two in three years of ownership. It seems most get updates via dealer visits still. I’m also on the Polestar forums and they a have mixed bag as well. Can’t imagine Mercedes and Hyundai are much better, but perhaps. It’s a sad state of affairs, make sure you like it how it is today, or lease it.
