One of The reasons I like our Macan is that is feels much more like a normal enthusiast‘s car. With ”thrust recuperation” off, using the accelerator makes the car go and lifting off it makes the car coast. Using the brakes makes the car slow down (and also regenerates some energy into the battery)

With “thrust recuperation” on, there is some slowing of the car and battery regeneration, although at a less abrupt rate than one-pedal driving would allow on other EV’s. I usually only use it when going down hills (similar to engine braking in a lower gear in an ICE vehicle).

I thought lack of one-pedal driving would be the hardest thing for me to adjust to but it’s been an easy transition.

After reading @daveo4EV ‘s explanation of why Porsche doesn’t do one-pedal driving, I’ve actually completed turned off battery recuperation.

Now, I can take turns 4, 6, and 8 in the Whole Foods parking lot with much greater confidence! 🤣

Surprisingly, it’s actually the lack of phone-as-key has been the biggest annoyance by far….the number of times I’ve walked to my car only to realize I forgot my keys… 🤬

Don't understand the point of thrust recuperation.. it made sense in an ICE to use engine braking going downhill but wouldn't you want the granularity of using the brake pedal to slow you down since the Macan automatically switches between regen and braking as needed?

Where's the "Really enjoyed it on other EV but since the Macan, completely forgot about it and I'm HAPPY as is" option?

none of the choices for the poll fit my answer:

"don't mind the lack of one pedal driving, believe it's a mistake that porsche doesn't have it at least as a preference, believe Porsche will never come to it's senses, but understand their perspective as to why they don't have it".

Going downhill and frequently riding the brakes will glaze your rotors and lead to noisy/squealing brakes. Not the worst thing in the world, but something I’d prefer to avoid.
Also, in snowy or slippery conditions, it’s much better to use engine braking (or the regen equivalent) than to frequently brake (and slide!).

i believe there is some misunderstanding about Porsche’s braking system implementation.

pressing brake pedal does not necessarily mean the wheel brakes are activated. It will try to regen as much as possible before falling back on brakes (my understanding is it actually can capture more than a Tesla can)

I believe coasting without battery recuperation is most efficient as any energy recapture cannot be 100% efficient

Interesting that’s the way it works because it sure doesn’t feel like that. Light application of the brake pedal while driving downhill feels like light application of the brake hardware to me. Maybe that is the genius of Porsche and why I like this car so much—it FEELS like a Porsche should.

With no way to modulate when the actual braking takes place, though, I am skeptical. The last two Cayennes we owned both suffered from glazed brakes that squealed annoyingly due to this. I guess only time will tell for the Macan.

OPD is only here because Tesla could never get the blended braking seamless and so it made a generation of people who think it’s the best thing since sliced bread but in reality 95% of the world coasts and brakes, we have 4 cars and they all brake and coast in the same manner (yes you can drive the iX OPD in B mode but nobody in the family uses it)
