Apologies in advance if this a dumb question but does the Plug & Charge feature only work at Electrify America charging stations (Electrify Canada for those of us in the 51st state...) where we get 30 minutes of free charging for a couple of years, or will Plug & Charge work with other charging networks and automatically bill the credit card on file in the MyPorsche app?

if I recall correctly there is not a SAE/ISO standard for plug-charge that vendors can adopt - current "standard" implemented only works with one vendor…a multi-vendor standard is forthcoming?

standard development is ongoing and may be complete from the standard bodies' at this time - if/when the standard is published/adopted - it will then take time for it to end up in the vehicle and charging station networks - I'd guess 2028 would be the earliest something like this woujld start be be rolled out in vehicles - and then you have network operators that have to update their charging stalls, billing systems, apps…

there are some "roll your own" plug&charge support from EVGo and such - but it's not universally true that it works across all North American EV's…

this is a known issue in the EV industry
it's being worked on
there are obviously multiple interested parties in getting this standard hashed out

but we're not there yet…at least that was the case last time I did a deep dive in mid 2024…

it's coming - not yet - will require new software for vehicles and charging networks - and it's not clear if a future set of requirements can be made to work on existing vehicle's

given historical automotive industry time lines and how long it takes even a "finished" project to show up for sale as a feature in a vehicle - even _IF_ there is a SAE/ISO standard finalized/published/agreed upon _TODAY_ - 2026 would be super aggressive - 2028 would be unsurprising.

Limited to EA in NA and Ionity in Europe as far as I'm aware although other providers are looking to aggregate those operators support P&C certificate exchanges.

Always quicker to initiate a charging session with either your RFID card or RFID key fob.

P&C is slow to react in my experience.

There is a standard for Plug & Charge - ISO 15118 (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_15118) It’s been around for over decade, but auto makers have been dragging their heals. Something that should have be perfected by now is only just being adopted. We are basically at best “beta testers” of janky software and an incomplete spec.

Mercedes customers just obtained the ability to connect at Tesla supercharging stations and their cars have a software patch available at the dealer to enable plug & charge on the Tesla network. You should expect something similar from Porsche, especially because Mercedes adds margin to the Tesla charging costs for the use of Plug & Charge compared to using the Tesla app directly with a Tesla Supercharge Network subscription.

if you read how Mercedes does plug&charge - it's a clever "hack" - they have not added supercharger plug&charge support to the vehicle - they updated the vehicle to contact the Mercedes app on your phone - which then uses the Tesla-app/API to start the charging session for the stall you're plugged into…it's a clever clever hack - but is not "technically" plug&charger via the charging cable…

my hat's off to Mercedes (or possibly Tesla) for this approach - but it's not an SAE/ISO charging-cable plug&charge support - it's a clever clever clever hack should work pretty well…

requires the Mercedes app to be configured w/Tesla account
requires cell/internet service @ charging location
may or may not work if say your brother-in-law in driving the car and you're at home with your Mercedes app…

but works around the lack of a multi-vendor standard and the need to update the car and charging network stalls to support new plug&charge features…
